This is a remembering moment,
of the way love
tasted like a first kiss-
how it smelled all wrapped up
in fresh sheets and how
my bottom lip still tingles
the way it used to
when your fingers brushed it
during a quiet moment
between soul mates.

Between us.

Once in awhile
I still listen to your voice-
the recorded message
I saved
when you called me at 3am.
Waking up to "I love you"
spoken three times
in a soft whisper
made it true.

It's funny how my real poetry
doesn't know you're gone-
it still writes itself and
clogs up my arteries
while the rest of my body goes numb
and my pores print out everything else
my heart refuses to accept.

I sweat denial.

It's 3am again and
I'm breathing a little-
but just long enough to
hear your voice one more time
before I cry.
It's the eye of the storm and
just so you know
I'm sorry you left.
When it comes right down to it,
I only hate you
when I miss you the most.

"Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone
I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me."

Angela, this one is poetic heartache. So well written! I've missed seeing your name around here. But not as much as you apparently miss that lover's voice. It's really hard to erase those things from your machine, much less your memory. Hugs to you.

Thank you for this insight...it's a good write...it comes from within...

there were a few lines that especially drew the imagery of the pain, but they were lent without sarcasm, nor remorse...just fact, honesty...truth...

well done!

angela- i read this last night when you first posted it and i must tell you, tears immediately swelled up in my eyes and i just wanted to reach through the screen and hug you.... it was late .. very late.. and i was tired and didn't respond then... but i am back to tell you that this piece is awesome in heart, tender in beauty, and superbly executed from the pen of a Poet who (and right now you may not believe this but it's true) will be recognized one day as a very fine writer.... To have the talent you have with language combined  with your excellent use of metaphor , phrasing and imagery, and your hard hitting honest approach... is a gift, my friend.... To have the skills you do at your age, all I can say is please never stop writing... make sure you get yourself published because the literary world needs your voice.... On a content level, all I can say is anyone who has truly loved has felt the pain and reminisce you display here and a love like that can, should and will be treasured in hearts forever.... True Love really never dies... ever... it just becomes part of you and you carry it with you to share again.......

"I only hate you
when I miss you the most."

This is such a simple sentence but so emotionally complex--I love honest poetry, and this is exactly that. You pulled me in and twisted me up like wringing out laundry!
whew.

You can write, my friend!

Well, I read this last night too and didn't comment (insert bad excuse and begging for forgiveness here) for some reason. I did want to say that you always do this with such a great power and with what seems to be a confidence voice.  I really enjoy your work, and this is more proof that you get better and better each time I read you. Loved this, BEE!

Thank you all so much for replying!

For those of you who replied in response to the poem, thank you, it always means so much to me as a writer to get positive feedback from my peers.  I appreciate it so much!

For those who replied on a more personal level, all I can say is thank you for being there for me when I need those I care about the most. It's a tough time right now, and I sincerely love each and everyone of you.  Thank you for your comfort.
