Jumer and the Lily Pad

Jumer was a bull frog
happy as could be
He lived among the lily pads
and always croaked at three

To the pond a fisherman
came one day to fish
Jumer dived under the water
“Don’t catch me” was his wish

To various spots in the pond
he would throw the line
Jumer became nervous when he
heard the buzz and whine

It landed near the lily pad
when the line was cast
Jumer tried to get away, but
the hook in his body held fast

Upon the fishing line he pulled
as the fisherman felt the tug
Thinking he had snagged a fish
he saw a frog with eyes that bug

Now three o’clock was nigh
it was Jumer’s croaking time
He would have to alert others
so they could sound the chime

The chorus of many bull frogs
Jumer could now hear
From across the pond there came
croaking loud and clear

“Hold on Jumer, we’re coming”
he heard Charlie Jingles say
‘We’ll get you free from that line
before the end of day’

Jumer, gave another low croak
but he was weaker then before
He wanted his friends to know
he was counting on the frog corps

The frogs were croaking louder
and surrounded the fisherman
He dropped his line upon the ground
all he saw were FROGS as he ran

The hook cut into Jumer’s body
as on the bank he lay
The pain was getting worse
Would he live to croak another day

By chance he was seen on the ground
as a boy came walking by
He reached down and picked up Jumer
then gently removed the hook and fly

He picked up the pole and line
and placed Jumer gently on the ground
As he started to walk away
the croak of Jumer began to sound

Jumer decided to croak his very best
as he climbed upon the lily pad
He told the frogs about the wonderful boy
and the freedom he now had

Wanda, I love poetry about animals and nature. This was some cool croakin' you did here. for you, and for Jumer.
