Just Nine

by Michael

On landscape timber garden
rests a man in tears,
gently brushing scarlet flowers
with fingertips.

As he sobs, he thinks back on her years.
Just nine of them, just nine
and now she'll not see ten.

He remembers how her little hand
felt in his own
and how she giggled at his goofy faces,
how the doctors found cancer in the bone
and then found it in so many other places.

She said, "Don't worry, Daddy, it's okay."
His days and nights were spent beside her bed.
He watched her little body wither 'way
and cherished every word his daughter said.

His tears fall on the teddy bear she held.
He draws it to his chest in an embrace.
The doctors did their best, but then they failed.
How brave the look upon her tiny face.

Oh God Michael...this one reached right into my chest, grabbing my heart, sqeezing it and not letting go.  The loss of a child has to be one of the most horrible experiences in life.  You have penned this well my friend.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Michael, this poem broke my heart just envisioning the fater holding her teddy bear close, this is so very sad! (BIG HUGGGSSSSS) Oh Auguste, my heart goes out to her and her dad, I pray that this dad will heal in time and know deep down her love will always be with him, though I believe the pain will always be with him. God Bless You, sweet friend, this has me flooding in tears, we all love you so much! You have a very loving and compassionate heart, sweet freind, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

The bravery of children is remarkable, isn't it?  This poem hurts to read, but it also made me feel the treasure of life and love.

Micheal,

What a heartbreaking poem I don't even know what to say..   Well written, but so sad.

Michael, as much as my heart has been broken, I think this is the one thing it would not recover from.
Well done and so sad.
Peace
Sandra

Nancy,
This poem was inspired by a program I saw dealing with children in the cancer ward at a hospital.  The loss of a child, I would think, is the most painful experience a person could have.  Thank you for reading.

Victoria,
You don't know how sad that makes me hearing about your dear sister.  I am so very sorry.  I lost a brother at seven.   It's hard to understand.  Please know you have my most sincere condolences.  *hugs* and thanks for reading.

Noah,
Only a poem, my friend.  Please don't let it upset you so.  Thanks!

Martie,
You know well this kind of loss, my friend.  We've discussed it many times.  *hugs* to you, dear one, and thanks for reading.

Karilea,
As I've been heard to say, "Poetry isn't always pretty.  Sometimes we have to address issues that most people would just as soon not think about."  Thanks for reading.

Tara,
Thank you.  *hugs* my friend

Sandra,
I tend to agree, because I know that I never could.  Take care, my friend, and know that I'm thinking about you. *hugs* and thanks!
