Lilac Memories

Soft upon breezes memories
of yesterday fill the room.
The upstairs window open,
the scented wind carries
the invitation...

"Reserved for you,
a beautiful day."
(And in my mind I slip away...)

The apple orchards across the road,
blossoms in full bloom.
Walk a country mile
to the crumbling bridge...
(They'll fix it one of these days)

Listen to the babbling creek
tell stories of yesterday,
[I loved to listen to what he had to say)

Playing in that wonderful yard
where the cat all to often got stuck
in that old oak tree we tried to climb.
(He learned it was a place he should not play.)

Vibrant were the colors
of those aromatic trees..
lilac scents filled the yard.
(Days of youth, I wish I could stay)

Observing the stallion
running free in the pasture...
proclaiming this is MY domain.
(He the mighty stead, don't get in his way.)

Watching the sun set
from that old porch swing
that should have been painted years ago.....
(My thoughts rambling as they may)

Slowly swinging back and forth
as dusk settles over the sky....

The breezes gently stir~
lilac memories.....

On the wings of words our spirits fly....and our souls are free.

Gentle Spirit; I love this poem of memories.  It brought back memories of my own childhood and the lilac bush in the front yard.  I loved to play close to the bush because of the fragrance of the flowers.  I still love lilacs.  Thanks for bringing that back to mind.  Wanda

Hello Gentle Spirit

The title captured my attention as I love the color lilac as well as the flower.  Your words took me on such a wonderful journey, a place I so often dream about - away from the stresses of life, a place where there is a simple life and no expectations.  I could see these images so clearly and enjoyed this so very much....thank you.

Take care......Sue

I liked the originality of this poem. BEAUTIFUL; yet has a dance of its own.
