She was nine, and he was ten,
So long ago, in way back when,
The boy next door, red freckled face:
She a tomboy, no hint of grace.

Construction paper, red and white,
Scissors snipping, through the night,
Mother's ink pen, extra fine,
Will you be, my valentine?

Waking up at light of day,
Side by side, in bed they lay,
Wrinkles landscape weathered face,
Genteel charm of aging grace.

I am yours and you are mine,
Will you be my valentine?
She was nine, and he was ten,
So long ago, in way back when.

Tim this was so so sweet, It brought back memories for me as I met my husband when we were teens, then he went into the navy and I went my way and eventually we met up again and married, So you see, I love this poem. thanks. floria
