I hope I am your dream.

These words, written and silently read,
      fastened themselves to my mind
and refused to leave my tongue -
forcing me to linger over their bitter taste.

      You  hope.
                       I dream.

Your hope,  resting in my
dreams perverts reality.
Why is it dreams are allowed
to remain dreams even after they
have been crumbled?

Hope is still hope, even when
     it is lost.
A home in ruins is no longer
even as much as a house; it
    is only a rubbish heap,
   and yet
destroy a dream and you have
    a dream unrealized -
When you let a dream go,
does it not take with  it
       a piece of your heart?

I hope I am your dream.

You were all my dreams, and
when you left they followed
    after you
There was little left of me
except the hope you
   would return.
Years followed years, like
   hesitant footsteps in the dark
        on uncertain ground.
Sometimes the moon
is bright enough to show the way
shining it's soft green light along
       unfamiliar paths that lead
       to a place where fresh
dreams can take the place
    of aging  memories.

I hope I am your dream.

Listen,
     you might hear yesterday
sneaking up on today -
disguised as forgiveness
and whispering  profound regrets.
     Deception sees no stranger -
deceit offers a hand at every turn.
Please,
Be sure of the hand that guides  you
before hoping to
       rejoin  abandoned dreams.
Maybe it is better to simply wait
until new ones come our way
so as to not let them pass untried.

I hope I am your dream.

I wonder if you
considered the meaning  of those words
before you wrote them out,
and what they meant
    for me.
A dream that never comes true
is its own kind of hell-
and would be more nightmare
than dream.
Sleep would come easily
if I only knew which awaited
the closing of my eyes.

I dream I am your hope.

There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar.

Oh Jamie! This is not a poem, it's a blood-let. I adore the twist of ending, and it is indeed exquisite. Complex questions with wondered answers in poetry! Awe.

Wow, I’ve read this twice now. Take a chance on a dream I say. For when a dream comes true, it is the most beautiful thing imaginable. And if you don’t take the chance, you’ll always wonder, what if.

Jamie, I echo Tracey's thoughts exactly.  I love this...one of your best.  I especially appreciate the repetition of the title throughout.  Much enjoyed tonight.

Jamie, I especially loved the last verse..

I wonder if you

A dream that never comes true
is its own kind of hell-
and would be more nightmare
than dream.

if I only knew which awaited
the closing of my eyes.

and I loved the twist in the last line..

I dream I am your hope.

sigh Jamie, a beautiful outpouring so delicately penned.

Thanks muchly-- you guys are the greatest.

Those words were written on the back of something I got for Valentines Day--

I spent a great part of the day pondering it.
This was the result.

Thanks again

Glad you liked it. To have someone be the dream IN your life instead OF your life is a difference of more than just two letters.
Thanks for reading.

When you let a dream go,
does it not take with  it
       a piece of your heart?

sums the entirety up in a tidy phrase - so right that it does, and it's a piece that can never be reclaimed. *sigh* this was indeed a heart-wrenching twist of wonder, doubt, and perhaps half-buried hopes. wowed here.
