Harbinger, Harbinger

little robin red-breast
tripping o’er the lawn
contemplating spring
as winter gapes its yawn

pulling up a worm
nipping at its nose
writhing and a wiggling
though it has no toes

your brothers and sisters
somehow hear his plaints
come flocking in to see
looking mighty quaint

what do you do
but gulp the length of him down
while the other fledglings
suffer with a frown

where might they go
to feast as you have done
where are its brothers
crawling in the sun

starlings have flown in
on peak of roof and ground
seeking their cravings
above the fence and down

sunshine’s in chorus
proclaiming spring is on its way
even though the chill
still grips the whole of day

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

VAS and I just cannot wait for spring, though I love winter, I am yearning now for spring and the lovely birds I love to watch. This made me feel so so good. floria

Now you've made me yearn for spring

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

The Robins quit tripping over my lawn after I removed the hose

I loved it

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

I'll be ready for spring the minute it gets here, but it has to wait until all the dog sled races are finished. It's a rule here in Alaska, and Canada, and even Utah right now. .
