A call from the past came last year
from a former friend who I did not want near;
confirmed his haste in putting people down
made you feel cheap, a lesser being, a clown.

Some fellows do that, depreciate others, in a blink
a way of detracting from their inferiority complex, I think.
Tonight came another call from a high school acquaintance, from way back,
made me relive some of the experiences I hadwhile a member of the pack.

He told me about chums that have died,
damage from this call I could not surmise,
I have already seen what it is to lose a loved one
Seeing that friends have died is certainly no one’s fun.

The idea he had was to unite the past with the present,
look back to his high schooldays with pleasure not resentment
Were these two angels being sent from up above
asking me to stop and think about what I have done?

Amazing how we can be put in our place rather quickly and from the most unlikely sources. Sometimes it takes a tragedy to see the error in our ways

Ruth is ver right, sometimes it takes a tragedy to find error in our ways.  They also make one wonder what can be done so something similar does'nt happen.  This is very well done, I liked it.

I would love to go to one of my high school reunions but they always happen on the years when I'm too fat.
I enjoyed the poem, Martin.

Lyra,

What do you too fat??

Vic,

I really don't have much of a desire to reunite with people who were cool towards me back then..I wouldn't be myself!

All Others,

not seeing this as an error but as a means of seeing what people have done with their lives since..

There's something to be said for those remindrances of what was conjoined to what is.. One thing's for sure.. Whatever will be.. will be...

(sigh) Sooooooo powerfully expressed, sweet friend, I too think sometimes we only become compassionate and understand ourselves after we experience tragedy or crisis, for then we understand the pressure so well and can scrutinize the meaning further! (big hugggssssss) Wonderfully said, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

You know, this is a thinker poem.  And good for you! I was "beneath" most of the kids that I went to school with...not in the "IN" crowd...

their loss.  I've kept tabs with some of them...the "losers" name that they had tagged a few of us with proved to be just the opposite...the ones that had it "all" then are the ones that wonder where it's all "gone"...

I do wonder what would occur should I go back to a reunion at my own high school...but I have a feeling I already know....I'd be the only one smiling...LOL...

Hypnosis,

My only error was that I wasn't born as tough from the beginning as some others who have since copped out...and have many rich experiences which would be their envy.
