I had a pet snail once.
Was telling Ron the story earlier and seems he doesn't believe me.  Finds it incredulous that I not only had a pet snail but that it recognized my voice and responded to it.
So...anyone else had an unusual pet?

I had tadpoles. in the house, in the kitchen, ewwww now, they make me feel sick. but not for very long obviously. i can still remember watching them now, then putting them back in the garden pond.

I also gave homes to caterpillars, until they fluttered around in the kitchen,
often worms, in a big container with soil, all for very short periods of time of course, but i loved them all the same.

I never took to snails, just ugh. no.

Snails, spiders, crane flies, ants, you name the bug, I probabaly had one (or many) at one point. My fave unusual pet? We have a cow moose that wanders around our property every winter... she's my girl... her name is Betty. Oh and then there was the leech that I caught one time and she had babies overnight... that was an interesting morning hehe... I'd love to have a human though... I've heard that they make the best pets hehe

Life isn't really all that bad... just don't take it too seriously

A butterfly.  A moth, and a pet duck that adopted us.  But not all at once.  And I didn't think they were unusual.  Not for pets that kept me.

What's with Edgar?

I had a squirrel as a kid. We found it under a tree, guess it fell from the nest. Had to set it back in the wild after it bit my Grandma's ear but it lived in the tree in our backyard so it was always around until it tried to cross the street at the wrong time...

ROTFL, I almost missed this thread!
Well, I had horned toads and garter snakes (my daughter has a garter snake now) and tadpoles that became frogs IMAGINE THAT!
and of course, dogs, cats, fish, canaries and finches and assorted other feathered friends.
And did I mention my adulthood pet, a pot bellied pig named Buttercup? She stole my bottle of Molsons and pushed my daughter off the couch all the time, slammed me in the leg every time she wanted attention. Don't ask what happened to her.

We had a pot bellied pig once.  Did you know they can swim?  They just can't climb the stairs to get out of the pool...

I had a pet hamburger once. It was on a plate in the fridge and I had forgotten it was there. After a while it began growing green sprouts and little patches all over it. It began to resemble a small island in the Pacific. The other foods considered it a god of some kind. I would talk to it, imitating Dr. Moreau. Later the green died and it began to look like a small chunk of volcanic ash. I gave it a decent burial....

Michael! your pet was related to the ones my mom had in her fridge! a jar of 10 year old pickles and mustard that was probably from 1956. (I used to know a joke about mustard gas)

Don't even get me started about pets in refrigerators because it will lead to a story of the time we had a legal "exhibit" in the fridge...

I confess - I knew Edgar well.  Matter of fact, I have to plead guilty to giving him to Ron in the first place.

Here's the 90% true story of "Poe Edgar"...

As for my personal pets...

We have flying squirrels in the rafters of my daughter's house.

I had a turtle named "Frog"

I had a cat named "Monkey"

I had a pet crow named "Blackie"

I had a largemouth bass named "Hiram J"

I've yet to keep a firefly alive...

Let me see, my brother and I used to catch and keep scorpians, kangaroo rats and tarantulas. Those fish aquariams are good for something. Oh, and we each had a tortoise.
