I used to be a member way back when... it was something very special called the Duet Club. If you go through some of the old threads in Family Dialogue and Poetic Haven, you'll see what I'm talking about...

Sharon (Poet deVine) originally started and organized the club... it was a really cool way to get people's pens working on conjunction with one another, it brought a lot of much-needed attention to the Sanctuary forums, and got a lot of lazy pens in motion. It even made a few new friends for everyone. Aww...

The basic idea was that every week, we would have a random pairing off of names of club members, and those randomly paired people would each write a collaboration, or "Duet," with their partner... the more senior member (the one with the most posts) is responsible for contacting the other one, and from there, the poetry just grows and grows... and when each piece is completed it's posted in the Poetic Haven for all to enjoy.

If you're interested in joining this club or renewing your membership, then please reply to this thread saying so. With PdV's help, I'd really like to get this thing back up and running again.

So what do you say, poetry land?

Ok Ms Devine... you invited me here.. what makes you think I can write, let alone write a duet..?? LOL

Being the master of non commital to additional demands... let me say I might indeed try this once or twice as long as in meter I do not have to write...or rhyme...lord no I can not rhyme..though it is true I try from time to time.
So send me green eggs and ham
for sam I am I am I am..
no wait...wrong story line..andI'm not sam..

RULES:

I, the once and powerful Oz..whoops, wrong script...

Ok

I, the PdV of PiP will take your names and put them on little slips of paper (not too small or I can't read them) and then I will draw two out and voila! those two people must write a duet poem. I'll continue til the end. If there is an odd number, the last poet gets stuck with me!

Keep signing up. We'll wait until Thursday night and then I'll set up the first set of duets.

LOL... Oh how I have athority issues...

Why was it I wanted to skip class when you stated the rules?

oh yeah... I don't work on the weekends and I am out of the office this friday... and let me see... Mondays are tied up for me because of standing staff meetings, but I can usually be reached or will usually get to replies sometime Monday evening...
In the odd case something breaks..I will be in the office for periods up to 48 hours... during such times ( rare thankfully at least for the present) I tend ot be a bit short and grouchy... the rest of the time I am in and out of meetings and doing training for a new employee...as well as dealing with typical office politics. during those times you will find me to be my usual kind, patient, forgiving self, except that of late I have been noticing mood swings and someone accused me of multiple personalities... I don't think there is anything to those claims...as I have NOT been visited by any Police officers wanting to know where I was at the time of _______ (name ommitted for personal reasons and to protect the innocent and guilty) dissapearance..

I can write any style as long as it is free verse... and not too long. My attention span and the number of brain cells available for me to use are no longer than...(no wait..I can't say that in here..) well... never mind..

Ron, please take this brown paper bag and breath gently into it..that's it...ok.

There is NO time limit on these..they should be done via email or any instant messenger you both have. If it takes you a month, it takes you a month - no big deal!! The point is to work with someone you may never have thought of working with.

LOL.. you want me to put the bag over my head you say???? Ms Devine..I knew I might not be the most handsome one around...but to tell me I need a bag over my head... really!!!

Oh..let me see... the new project kicke doff this week and with it I will be working some longer hours until the actual implementation then it will be a round the clock for two or three days while we do an install and test...
my mind does not get too creative when it is thinking of clustered servers, code interface, and user acceptance testing...
database design and actual spec documents tend to drive me into ananlytical mode which often asks questions about such things as why I write poetry at all....

oh yeah... if I don't have my caffiene I am unbearable... so always have a pot of coffee or a Mt Dew ready for me...

wait! forgot to mention... general business hours for me are from 6 am to 6:30pm central time...although extended hours are any time earlier or later that I can't sleep or am so obssessed with what I am working on that I can't quit.....

I shoul dbe able to finsih anything thrown at me in usually 15 or twenty minutes as long as I am inspired....so... whom ever you partner with me..or the fates partner with me.. will just have to be ptient.. LOL

Now..where was that bag? Where did I lay that vial of valium? oh gee... and I am out of crack....

Now..I'd have written with you anytime..all you had to do was ask....

Umm...can we do something about seperating the list into who has messenger programs (and who actually uses them) and who doesn't?

I tried this once with someone who didn't use a messenger program, and it was quite difficult for me to do. I like the immediate exchange and the flow better than waiting on an e-mail.

If its someone I'm familiar with, the messenger program isn't a big deal. If its someone I've never really chatted with before, its more difficult without a messenger program?

anyways..big request..I know...
please?

I know the feeling.  Every successful collaboration I've ever done was fast-paced and in the form of instant messages.

Luckily I think most people on here have access to some IM program or other.  No need to add any confusion to the selection process... and what's more, take away from the randomness... right?

no problem. I totally understand, but could we at least get a "raising of pens" in this thread on who uses a messenger program and who doesn't? to get an idea?

Obviously there are going to be many different writing styles and personalities here...not all can write spontaneously on a chat screen, not all will be able to meet at certain time zone to chat, due to work scheduals or what ever...some are going to feel more comfortable doing it by email, while others are going to work better "live"
Part of this being successful is going to be how we will adapt and try new things, but also theres going to be times where a pairing wont work out due to lack of muse or chemistry or a poet might not be availble for a round due to personal, or work obligations.

When you did this before, was there a system used when a poet needed to take a pass or opt out on one of the assigned rounds?

Yeah JM, a lot of people just didn't post at all and made no excuse for themselves, or a brief "it didn't work out" in the main thread.  A lot of people couldn't even get in touch with the other in order to write something in the first place.

Hopefully that won't happen so much, but we have to be realistic and realize there will be pairings that don't produce a poem.  Hopefully it won't discourage anyone.

Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.
