what did ya have for breakfast?

licking my fingers before I type--I had a hamburger!  (hey, it would have been better, but the guy who was gonna make the hash browned potatoes from the left over crawfish boil taters? well...tsk...he's passed out! (serenity sniffs...y'okay buddy? yeah. He's okay...zzzzz)

so yeah...now I'm eating an obscene burger at this most obscene time---which brings about part II of my query, do you have a particular time? Hep me, please, I do not understand normal eating/sleeping patterns. Fill me in. I'll take notes...um, as soon as I lick the mayo off me fingers...

A diet Coke. So far. But hey! It's only a little after 7 here. There's plenty of time for a good hearty healthy breakfast. If you go to Dennys. For me, there is no time. Usually I don't eat breakfast (bad!). Or I'll just fix a quick egg - or I'll wait til I get to work and get a bacon/egg/cheese on a croissant.

breakfast is evil.

i'm usually up between four and seven in the morning (depending on whether i went to be before or after two in the morning... urgh again) and i don't eat until usually around eleven or so.

i LOVE breakfast foods... uhm... just not at breakfast time. although, like sharon - i usually have something to drink right away... i ALWAYS have somethign to drink - sprite at the moment. (no caffiene, sigh)

Oh I love chocolate milk!!!

And by now I have supplemented my diet Coke with 4 raw carrots...only because they don't have to be cooked - I'm not in the mood to cook. I'd like to HAVE a cook though..someone to hand me a plate when it's time to eat and then wash it afterwards. Sigh.

Hmmm let's see, I am up at 6ish, get ready for work, have coffee and maybe a yoplait or a fruit of some sort, get to work (at Denny's BTW), work till 1, walk over to my other job at Office Depot, have a diet coke, work till about 6ish, then I have something to eat, get off work around 10.  Go home, go to bed and do it all over again.

I do have chances to eat and orange or pear now and again and of course a Baby Ruth...

Well..I usually have muesli with natural yoghurt, and fruit...or sometimes two pieces of toast and milk.

But this morning I was kinda in a hurry so I only had ONE piece of toast (with vegemite, yes, I know you won't know what that is - yeast spread, high in Vitamins) and milk.

My cat had jellymeat. Her breakfast is far more important than mine, so it has to be mentioned too...

I only have breakfast on friday and saturday.  Sunday, I sleep too long, then it's lunch time when I wake up.  Monday through Thursday, I'm in much too much of a hurry to eat.  stupid school...

Anyways, lately I've been having honey chex and milk on fridays.  On saturday, I try to make it either to Bob's diner if I'm here in Manhattan, or, if I'm in Lenexa, I will go to IHOP or Perkins.  If I'm at Bob's, I get the french toast combo, with eggs overeasy, two bacons, wheat toast, hashbrowns, and a side of biscuits and gravy.  If I'm at IHOP, I get the Rooty-Tooty-Fresh'n'Fruity meal. If I'm at Perkins, I'll get the Tremendous Twelve breakfast.

If you have no idea what those meals are, well, I'll explain...otherwise, I don't think I'll get into it.

Karen,
Okay, I confess breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! But I practically never have it before 9:00 a.m.. Which means, I only get breakfast a couple times a month. When I do breakfast it is either hash browns and eggs or hash browns and an omelette. With, of course, an English Muffin and Raspberry Jam and juice and rarely coffee. LOL Fun thread...

A. Make me one with everything.

grin...let's not analyze. Let's REALIZE.

groovy man...now...repeat your mantra after me...first syllable...mmmhmmmhmmm...

"Ba........"

second?

"Na........"

and third.

"Na........"

And now, inhaling on first syllable, exhaling on second and again on third, and continuing to alternate in the same pattern--REPEAT AFTER ME: "Ba....Na...Na...."

Again.

"Ba...na...na.."

again.

"ba..na..na....."

at last(whispered)

"sshhhh..."

ba.na.na.

ban..a...na...?

"OH."

BANANA?

SIGH...

"banana!"

Breakfast is usually cereal (I hate to cook) unless Hubby is off. Then he makes a big production of hashbrowns with onions and mushroom cheese omelettes. I am stuck with dishes afterward though, but it's worth it. I quit drinking all caffeine and carbonated stuff so it's just water for me.

Sorry Kamla, but Vegemite is nasty, at least to American sensibilites.  Too freakin salty ... mush is supposed to be sweet.

Anyway, as to the topic, pizza for breakfast here -- thin crust, ham and pineapple.  And lemonade.

Okay I had company from Australia last year and Andy gave me his shopping list before he came and it was porridge, and Vegemite too.  He brought that vegemite with him, and I found out porridge was just oatmeal when he got here (that I could do).  Well, I took one wiff of his Vegemite and insisted it be kept in the other fridge as I could smell something like a gross malt smell which made me sick.  He ate it on toast every morning and I had to go outside while this ritual took place as the smell is something one either gets used to or must have a small empty bucket near by, (I was of the latter).  That stuff stinks!  But I like the song about it though Kamla

An Ode to Marmite
              The Joy of Marmite

I spread my Marmite sparingly, upon my buttered toast
Of all the things to put on bread, it's what I like the most.

Its flavour always feels warm, although it isn't hot
--Caustic like a chili sauce, it certainly is not

Approved by vegetarians, and good for your nutrition
Of what my Mum called savoury, the very definition.

Though made from lowly byproducts--leftover brewing ooze
It is so reminiscent of the finest of French stews

Such grand associations were surely what was meant
When so named by clever brewers from Burton on the Trent

Precisely what exquisite yeast do Marmite makers use
To lend such gourmet qualities to brewing residues?

more intriguing results from my never ending research into the various 'mites'

There are 3 types of yeast extract in NZ/Australia - vegemite, marmite and promite

They're basically all the same, BUT.

Marmite is sweeter than vegemite
Promite is sweeter then marmite
They're all extremely salty tasting.

Vegemite eaters will eat marmite at a pinch, but marmite eaters tend not to be able to stomach vegemite

Ingredients:
Vegemite: (Kraft General Foods NZ Ltd)
Yeast extract, salt, malt extract, colour(caramel), vegetable flavours, vitamins (niacin, thiamine, riboflavin)

Marmite: (Sanatarium Health Food Company, NZ)
Yeast, sugar, salt, wheatgerm extract, mineral salt (508) colour(caramel), herbs, spices, vitamins (niacin, thiamin, riboflavin)
It's also got a small note under the ingredients: "100% vegetarian" (but then, what do you expect from a company owned by the 7th Day Adventist church?)

Promite: (Masterfoods of Australia)
Vegetable protein extract, sugar, yeast, natural colour(caramel) salt, thickener (Wheat starch), emulsifier (Glycerol monostearate) spices, added vitamins, water
Other countries' versions may vary....

It's not that bad - YOU, you people who have never even TRIED the stuff - you have absolutely no ability to truly comment...pah...

Um Jamie - I have to contradict you...Vegemite is the sweeter one...and neither of them taste salty to me...not at all...I will eat Marmite...but I prefer Vegemite..

like anyone cares

Hey - but when I was in the states, I ate bloody waffles for breakfast with syrup and whipped butter. Good God! What are you people trying to do to your bodies eating that at 8am????? I do confess...I refused to eat the grits that Jamie tried to shove at me...(er - what are they again? I just remember you admitted they were gross...)

hey now, grits are pretty good. . . I tried them for the first time a long time ago just because I wanted to (I have a habit of trying things just for the heck of it. . . )

they're pretty good with a little bit of gravy on them. . . mmmmmm. . . or, you can have them with some nice homemade biscuits. . .

and, what's wrong with waffles??  I love waffles. . . and pancakes. . . with perhaps not that much syrup and butter. . .

but, there's nothing that can beat a good serving of chorizo and eggs wrapped in a flour tortilla with some cheese. . . the best. . .

Um C - the 'but' in your sentence indicates that you are suggesting that other places might not have such a diversE range of foods as your locale. Is that correct?

You are sadly mistaken...

K exits pompously...

well, not quite - Sven...grits are baaaad. Think bad. And by biscuits I'm assuming you mean scones.

AND I've finally figured something out. YOU guys get scones (biscuits) with your KFC AND you get your gravy in a separate container from your mashed potatoes...

so, you like pour the gravy over the scones (biscuits) as well as the potato! ~Applause for K~

We get the potato and the gravy mixed together you see...and bread rolls, not scones(biscuits).

I know - who cares, again..

actually your highness - it was indicative of disagreement regarding tastes. i could go out for dinner tonight and have a wide variety of foods - Mexican, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, seafood, steaks, hamburgers, Indian food, Southern, Southwestern (and yes, there is a difference), Mandarin, Grill, Fancy, blah, blah, blah. The good foods already existed, so we just brought them here, then covered what was missing.

So there.

And probably more I don't know about.

So there.
