Considering we're from different parts of the world, I'm sure Serenity's topic shall be an interesting one.

Weather's beautiful. I'm sick (and have LOST MY VOICE!!! today at work, my co-workers were commenting on how quiet I was). Was going to get a job at Disney World, a college internship, but have decided against it. I'm looking forward to having tomorrow off. Hope I can do something besides nothing.

So, what's going on in your life?

I'm being promoted. Actually what they are going to do is pay me for doing what I'm doing now....

The weather here is hot..that's not unusual though.

And I spent the last few hours playing with graphics.....I think my daughter-in-law is mad at me for that..but HEY! it's MY weekend too!

So, anyone doing anything special this weekend?

A ramble from K:

Well..it's getting cold here...I just bought a new oil heater..while the rest of my flatmates sit out in the lounge watching tv in the cold air, I sit in my nice warm room on the net heh...

anti-social K. (The best part is I have a tv so I can watch it over my shoulder if I want lol...all set up...rotf)

Hmm..well, let me see...I'm in the middle of my first semester (very different to American semesters - we start in March and finish the first semester in June)...so far I am doing ok. I've had two tests and had A-'s on both...

But I had a nightmare the other day - I got a C- on an assignment. I was shocked! That's one grade above a fail...there was no reason for it either, so I took it back to the lecturer - get this..she hadn't seen the last page which was the most crucial!!! How do you not see a last page???? So she's taken it back to remark and it will go up substantially. Sheesh..the moral of the story: COMPLAIN!

This weekend I went out to dinner with friends on Friday night, and I spoke to Jamie on the phone (Jamie from passions) for about an hour - always a highlight...on Saturday I studied and that night I turned down the opportunity to hang out with my closest friends because I had the house to myself for once (flatmates all out) so I chose to stay home and enjoy the peace..and today (Sunday) I am going to go to the university library and study...and then go see my best friends afterwards...

there you go - the life of K..

Walt - why can't you get into summer classes?

What is Cerenity up to?

Well not writing that’s for sure! My muse left on vacation and doesn’t seem to want to come back. So I have been planting zinnias and sunflowers, starting them off by seed in containers so I can arrange them how I want in my gardens. I’ve planted about two hundred seeds all from what I harvested last year. They were so beautiful and these two verities seemed to grow the best, I tried about twenty different kinds of flowers last year but had very little luck with most of them except these two kinds. Before I came to Passions last Feb. I spent my every waking moment in the yard and some how managed to write poetry on top of it, but this year it seems to take up all of my time just getting the yard work done! I’m loosing my knack for being able to do everything, you know super woman syndrome! And that’s about the extent of my life at the moment “oh” there are some really yucky parts to life but who wants to hear about those things “NOT ME”
Everyone have a wonderful day,

Love, Cerenity

Thats a good question?
I have this picture I want to use for Passions but I need someone REMOVED from it, I like me in it but don't need the other person? and then I would have to mail it to you cause I don't have a scanner or would know how to use it? if you have any answers to this dilemma I would love to hear from you by e-mail,

Hey I love those pics deVine. . . you really do have a gift for that. . .

Things for me have been really busy. . . but good. . . I'm enjoying my new position as co-Editor of Digital Passions. . . (my first issue comes out soon!!!). . . and working with the staff has been a blast. . . what a great group of people. . .

I've also been reading my stuff at Open Mic nights here in the area, getting my name out there. . . people seem to like it. . . so, I'll keep doing it. . . and yes, I'd keep doing it even if they didn't like it. . .

Sometime next month, two of my poems will be published in a small local literary magazine called Waystation. . .they have a small subscriber base, but, it's a start. . . and it didn't hurt that I met the editor at an Open Mic night a couple of months ago. . . she actually encouraged me to submit. . . so. . . thanks to her!!!

Well, that seems like enough for now. . . what's everybody else up to????

Javier, you just have to get up and do it. . . I was really nervous before my first reading. . . I didn't know what they would think . . . I was afraid that I wouldn't be loud enough, or that I'd stumble. . .

But once I got up there. . . it was like I had done it all my life. . .

You just have to be confident. . . that really shows. . . if you're proud of your work. . . that comes through too. . . give it your all. . . don't overdo it. . . but just read it like you wrote it. . . you could even practice beforehand. . . say on your family. . . or in the privacy of your room or home. . . just out loud to no one. . . that's always good to get it out. . . to see how it sounds. . . maybe polish it up a little. . .

Then, when you're ready to get up there and do it. . . you'll really shine. . .

In fact, you can read about my first experience at an Open Mic night here. . . Poetry Readings

Javs - the first time I did...my knees were shaking so hard...and I didn't read quite loudly enough...but I was really well received and even had a man come up and tell me afterwards that he thought I'd go far...that certainly helped me overcome the fear...

JUST DO IT - to plagiarise Nike. I agree with Sven - it IS the only way to overcome it...how else could you possibly?

So it rained today.  I guess I can't really say that.  I should explain a little more, expound upon that thought.  It poured, in torrential winds of blanketting rains, "A river runs through it"...it being everything.  I just got done talking to my math professor about double integrals and translating the domain from a three dimensional graph, and stepping outside I saw that it was sprinkling just a little bit.  There wasn't a cloud in the sky before I stepped into Snow Hall for my daily math class that I go to about once every three weeks.  So I figured, "Yay, sprinkles. I like sprinkles.  Especially the little red ones that taste like powdered sugar."  I walked past the bus, it was nice out; not too hot, not nearly cold, the rain was nice and so was the breeze.  The bus pulled away from the curb and slowly rumbled down the main drag.  And Mother Nature unleashed her fury right on top of my unobtrusive self. I don't know what happened, if I did something to piss her off or what.  But HOLY FRIGGIN COW!  After two seconds of struggling into the wind, it felt as if I'd jumped into Clinton Lake with my clothes on and my backpack on my back.  "There goes my notes," I thought, as I watched a strange white pulpy liquid leak out of my backpack.  And seconds later it was, "There goes my calculator," as a pop and a puff of smoke emerged from the back pocket of the same entirely soaked red bookbag.

Okay, I'll just ramble for a bit.

Today has been one of those days.  You know, a day when you want nothing to do with anyone around you, and just want to be left alone?  I just didn't want anyone to talk to me, and wanted to be left to myself to do my own thing.  It was actually quite frustrating, because some people at my school have a hard time taking a hint.

This week has just been one of those weeks.  You know, a week when nothing seems to go the way you want it to, and every problem that occurs just which just gets worse and worse with each passing hour.  It's done nothing but stress me out.  Not to mention there are tons of tests to study for, and auditions for practice for, and not nearly enough time or patience to put time into it.

*sigh*

Weeks like these are no fun.  BUT it's with weeks like these that my creativity shines, and I write a whole lot.  So there are positive aspects in everything.. the challenge is finding them.

Okay, my rambling is done.

How about those Braves?

One of my cats got hit by a car..   nooo...
Well, she is ok, but she's at the vet's after an operation to fix her shattered pelvis, broken hip, put her hip back in to the socket and stitch her side up after it was ripped open on the gravel road.. Man! She is so careful around traffic! I can't think how she could have been hit..

Okie.. that's the bad news..
good news.. there's some really cool music playing at the moment, that I haven't heard for years.. so it sounds even better.. ^_^

I need a vacation... Can anyone substitute for me for the rest of the school year?... I'll need three people - one for my classroom (middle school level)... one for my recovering substance abuser kids (secondary level)... and one for my private tutoring repertoire (mostly algebra)... I wanna take the rest of the month off...

I'll take everything but the Algebra stuff....and I can do it because I've been officially made the trainer in my department...which I've been doing for 2 years anyway, but this time they give me the title and the money (not a lot but every 12 cents helps!).

I'm in school. The teacher's gone. Some kid with broccoli in his teeth is staring over my shoulder. Hi Bob. I can barely keep my head up. I'm trying not to cry...Everything looked so nice outside today. I even saw the sun...there are no windows here. Heck, there's hardly a door. We're locked in a building that looks incredibly close to the jail on the other side of town...There are seven police officers here. Should I be scared? Bob's a nice kid. Ten minutes till the end of class, till the swamp in the hall. I'm going to stay after class; people aren't my kind of deal. I'll walk past the artroom in fifteen minutes, and see my painting on the wall. There are windows there.......

The prison that is high school... I know it well. It's even worse now, I'm failing science class. No, not just a few low test grades, I have a 61% in there. Can you say stupid? LOL! Oh well, maybe it will convince my parents that if I can't keep this up in HS that there's no way I can go on and be a scientist. (actually I probably could get an A in there, but I'm too lazy and I don't really care that much!    )

Lemme think Dopey... nnnnnnnaaaaaah.

Stars, you sound a bit lonely.. u ok there?? Hehe, I was trying not to cry in bio the other day, I'm not even sure why.. one of my classmates asked why I looked so sad, and I couldn't answer, 'coz then I FELT sad.. sometimes things just are a little overwhelming, yeah? And anyway, when u find the right friends, I think perhaps you'd prefer to be with them sometimes, than on your own.. ppl aren't really my thing either.. I have 2 really close friends.. but other than that I prefer to stay back a little.. except here..

Hehe, my worst subject is maths.. I never understand that.. the worst thing is, all my classmates expect me to, and they all ask me for help in that.. so I have to explain.. I have a maths exam next week, and I'm so not ready!! Aah! Then, I haven't studied.. so that could help.. I've been concentrating on my other assignments, for photography etc.. don't think i'll do maths next year.. science is fine tho.. only the biology areas tho. ^_^

Well. I'm off to search the net for some info on marijuana for a friend who's doing a debate on the decriminalisation of marijuana in NZ (negative)
WHOA! LONG!! ^_^

I have a question... who was the guy that decided that state tests would determine the placement of our souls? Yep, it's that time of year. I got my scores back yesterday. I did ok, got 93rd percentile and above in everything but study skills (79th). My parents jumped all over me for that, but the thing that really bothers me is that most of my friends got 40s and stuff... far below the national average... but they aren't stupid! Heck, I copy off of one of those friends in geometry all the time, and I outscored her by 3 percentiles in the math part! What does that tell ya? Someone could just be having a bad day and it will be on their record, affect future classes, scholarships, esc...

So, back to my question. Who decided that state tests should determine the placement of our souls? Just curious.

If you are wise you'll listen to me

Gum chewing's fine when it's once in a while
It stops you from smoking and brightens your smile
But it's repulsive, revolting and wrong
Chewing and chewing all day long
The way that a cow does

Oompa loompa doompety da
Given good manners you will go far

Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a siamese cat
Blaming the kids is a lie and a shame
You know exactly who's to blame
The mother and the father

If you're not spoiled then you will go far

If you are wise you'll listen to me

What do you get from a glut of TV
A pain in the neck and an IQ of three
Why don't you try simply reading a book
Or could you just not bear to look
You'll get no
     You'll get no

javier, i'm sure you will get around to travelling some day....i think what is most essential is the desire to want to travel...with such positive attitude, you can make things happen....

well, i don't know how to drive and i am 20!!

sharon, i have only written prose once and i think once is enough...LOL..nevertheless, i would put down my thoughts in form of poetry...

here's my first attempt

Yeah.. I want to travel the world too.. I'd love to go to China, and Japan.. and all the South American countries.. I've been to Argentina and Chile, but that was only one month between the 2.. I'd love to visit France, and Italy.. Greece.. and I just have to go to Canada and England.. um yeah.
And I have to go to Australia, 'cuz I have a relie there..

Mm.. but I dunno when I'd get a chance! I want to go to Uni after I've left school, then probably I won't have a lot of cash after I've finished, lol.. certainly not to go to all those places..

don't worry, Javier..after all, youth is on our side

Yu Lan, thanks for reading my poem...a pagoda is similar to a temple though different countries use the terms pagoda and temple rather differently..i think a pagoda may either mean a place to honour the dead or a place of worship...

and i think its cool that you have travelled for a bit...when i was your age, i stayed at home and moped and whined...sigh...

You don't have to be young to live Javs...

I know of people who didn't travel overseas until they were retired..know something else interesting?

NZer's and Aussies travel overseas more than most Americans and Canadians simply because our countries are 'smaller' by comparison...

NZ youth have a big cultural thing going called 'the big OE' (overseas experience). It's 'normal' - almost expected - for young NZers, particularly those who live in the cities, to travel somewhere for anywhere up to a month, to a few months to even a couple of years. Most go to Europe...London specifically. It's popular now to go to the states and work in the skifields...

You're treated with pity almost, if you haven't been overseas by the time you're 23 or so.

Ah culture...

Hmmm....well, life is pretty normal here in the desert...hot, dry, but very humid in mid morning. Pretty exhausted still from a 12-hour graveyard shift on a fire scene. That was fun...just glad it was cool and not triple digits (that usually happens around 9am). And...well, not much else happening except for the return of my wayward Muse...don't know how long she'll be around this stint, but I do hope to get some writing done before her next haitus.

Poet deVine congratulations on your promotion and raise. Seems someone is finally taking notice of who is doing alot of work. It is probably cheaper to give you a raise than try to find somone to do all you do for what they were paying you.

Sevvey, I can't imagine asking a dead fly how it feels. . . LOL. . .

And if you don't think that I could kill a fly, then I've succeeded in my plot to make you think that I'm a really nice person!!!   *insert evil laugh here*

HI, I just found out this forum was here, boy am I late again! Thanks Sharon for showing me the way.
So, I am just going to go ahead and write lots of stuff here now, no I have no other life  Ha Ha.
Happy comment, for the first time in months (many many) I had happy, wonderful dreams last night. Now this may not seem like a big deal to anyone else, but trust me, when it's been missing for a long time, it's great!

Went to Wal-Mart to pick up a layaway for someone. Traffic horrible.
Line at layaway horrible.
Finding out the layway was at K-Mart.
Hilarious.

Old threads are cool.

I love the walmart. Only place here in my hometown that sells phone cards. It's not much better at college as far as phone cards go, but it's better in just about every other way.

All hail the Wal Mart. It has everything. My Thanksgiving tradition is going to the Blitz on that Friday at 5:30 am to fight old ladies for stuff. This year I clawed my way to some 10 dollar Care Bears. Mailed one up north to my guy . Fun stuff.

I"m strange, but I love the walmart.

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

Does it make you strange to love Wal-Mart?  Then I am stark, raving mad as I love that place.  However, the best shopping by far is at second-hand stores, love those.  Picked up an antique chair the other day, beautifully recovered for $75.00 (would have cost more to cover the chair than I paid,) then off to Wal-Mart to see what prices were slashed, leaving with a cart of cleaning products, and things my life would not go on without.  Arrived home, got some java going in my fantastic one-cup coffeemaker from Wal-Mart, settled into my new comfy chair, and went to eBay.  Oh yes, life can't get better than that can it?

WalMart has definately got it's place in the world, and it is going to remain thus, as where else will people be able to buy their cheap plastic stuff???
Myself included?

But now the animal is in pain...
And now it's starting to rain...
But I'm still the same.

Yup I think WalMart is awesome. Only thing that worries me, I've watched the supercenters go up around the city and it seems that all the grocery stores in about a 2 mile radius shut down within the year. At the rate things are going soon we won't be able to get groceries anywhere BUT Walmart.
