For Marla Ruzicka...

May your spirit soar
through the door
of Peace.

May your deeds and words
be remembered by hearts
on all sides of this wall of war.

"Wall of war," eh?

I wanted to let you know I appreciate your poem, without having to get into some kind of tired political debate.  Which is one of the reasons I like this poem... it doesn't get all preachy, even though its subject matter is specifically political.

Mourning an anonymous human being can be difficult, if you've never known them.  I do like, in your poem, how you pit the closing words "peace" and "war" against one another, capitalizing only one of them.  Very subtle.

Nice reading you, Kacy.

Brian, that's one of the reasons I enjoy your critiques so much; you take time
to notice both the intent and subleties in presentation. Thank you so much!

Kacy,
I like being able to count on you. Ditto Brian's nicely done response.

A wonderful dedication to a loved one.  This could go on a gravestone because of its shortness and its beauty.  Wonderfully written.

I noticed that wall, too, Kacy.  Thank you for staying on top of things.  The courage to go against the wall (and to stand on top of it and write of truth)-- that is something....this outcome is very sad.  .....jo

Oh, this one gives me a heartache moment.
I've considered another Marla write, one that includes a Jill Carroll quote after Marla's tragic death. If I can put it together, it will be about lady heroines who have fought for Peace and Justice worldwide.
Thank you for reminding me of my intended write, which has been on the back burner too long already.
