Where flowers once grew
now grows
the stench of human brew,
left to rot in the heat of day

and some will turn away and say
'they started it, but we shall finish it'

and in the end
the little girl who wore a white dress
to school the day before
now lies dead in red stained shroud

and some will turn away and say
'they started it, but we shall finish it'

last night she dreamed of learning to read,
ran laughing, picking flowers in the sunshine,
said her prayers before going to bed,
and now, she is dead

and where flowers once grew
now grows
the stench of an inhumane brew.

And I thought I had it hard...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Me too. I put this here instead of open or dark, because it's just too hard to read. But my muse made me write it, in memory of the children.

Martie, thank you for taking a moment to read and reply. I know it's not a pleasant write, but I see nothing pleasant about what is happening to the children worldwide, and still cannot listen with belief when people sing a song I remember from a childhood Sunday school class

Jo, and Marty, thank you both for your kind hearted replies. I believe that taking care of the world's children should be our number one goal.

So sad and disturbing... but Jesus does love the little children... and they are at home with Him. A good, wrenching write.

Love's a lovely lad
His bringing up is beauty
Who loves him not is mad
For I must pay him duty

And if we don't say....

Then those who did start, and who think of that girl as a tool who will be their slave in heaven now that they've murdered her for the cause, will say:

"We started it, and now we shall finish it."

And they will come for your grandchilden.

Oh, that's the beauty of a really well-written polemic poem! It's so strong that it drops out of sight, and leaves the mind with the message rather than the poem. You did really well here -- I may not agree with the message, but I very much like the way you brought it to the page.
