Just a call to say hello, keep in touch, I've got to go
With a click you went away, just like you did too many days
That call to say I'll see you around, just so you can let me down
Just so you can turn the knife, strive to keep me in your life

Though I've lived in many towns, you would always track me down
To remind me of our past, that it's my fault we didn't last
That you were never in the blame, though you took another's name
Trying to keep me about, in case things did not work out

I was but a safety net, I was but your surest bet
It was my job to be around in case you ever fell to ground
To be fit and capable to rebuild your pedastal
Affection always returned, and repair your bridges burned

Soon you'll find somebody new. I'll fade fast from your view
I will again be cast aside as he takes you for a ride
Until again I get a call, until again you take a fall
Will I still be your safety net, will I still be your surest bet

Just a call to say hello, keep in touch, I've got to go
With a click you went away, just like you did too many days
That call to say I'll see your around, just so you can let me down
Just so you can turn the knife, strive to keep me in your life

sooner or later, the gratitude for the safety net turns to resentment anyhow.

But inserting that disclaimer, I reckon that was figured out long ago.

AAUGH! Oh-man-oh-man-oh-man......and this got only three responses....one wonders whether it is because all to many of us were tongue-tied by our own guilt.....?
