I lay my pen at your feet.
Do with it what you will.
I pray to paper gods.
They are not neatly folded.
Neither is my laundry.
Pockets hot with quarters.

I lay my pen at your feet.
You can bleed the fine point
to create dreamed-of landscapes,
or at least a necklace.
Necklace of Pen Parts, princess.
Guaranteed good fun.

I lay my pen at your feet.
Hold the inkstick still and straight --
jerk the paper underneath.
Exercise the crinkled tear,
words to blot the table's skin.
Pass me a ciggy, or the time.

I lay my pen at your feet.
Make out the To: to me.
Any amount you feel would help.
For: the hell of it.
Sign it there at the bottom.
I'm not asking for a star.
Just another lightbulb.

So I can revise the surface,
always waiting for me to explore it
with loping scrawl -- slow words fall,
inching toward a variant texture.

I lay my pen at your feet.
All I do is all I do.
A sad and insular state of affairs.
The figures you leave bring men to tears --
your hand knows where and when to sign.
It could really help my career, my dear.
And so I lay my pen at your feet.

There are many ways this poem can be interpreted, Mikey. But whatever treasures the reader finds, it's always goooood!

Spectacular!! The title drew me in and the poem didn't let me down! I love the way you write.

Hey dude,
Won't that just get you a broken pen?

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Thanks. This is just me, staring down the fact that, yet again, I have less than $40 in my account until the 15th. Rather than take a clear-eyed, sober look at how to change this situation -- which would make for a boring poem -- I entertained the idea of finding a mistress who could keep food on my table while I wiled away the days.

It's not a pretty picture. But it makes for a fun pome.

hey..that's the way I write!

I like it when the dark desperation
holds the pen

I was thinking more along the lines that money was a "she" . . .
kind of like how you say, "ladyluck"
either way - the stanza about
to and from is amazing . . .

Wow dude!  I fantasize about this too.  Awesome!

Haha, I loved the poem, it was a neat image.  Especially liked how you asked for a new lightbulb, kind of demonstrates how low-maintenance you are.  All you need is to be able to just sit in a room and scribble on papers while pizzas are slid under the door for you.  Kinda reminds me of how I lived when I was in middle school?  Haha...

Yeah, lovely writing... hermetic fantasy is great...
