Young men in shiny boxes
Flag draped in somber tone
Protectors of defenseless
Thousands of miles from home

Beliefs forgotten in reverence
Pay homage to soldier’s yield
Dying in foreign lands
From Saigon to Flander’s Field

Turn your back on politics
not on my uniformed child
remember who you turn against
take care of who’s reviled

chills...

Just total chills...

This is so very poignant.

You make the point so much more gracefully than I ever could.

We are often too quick to condemn the notions of war without examining the fact that those soldiers who are fighting aren't the ones we should condemn for the war, that they are human beings doing everything they can to cope with this political struggle.  When I was little I used to see soldiers as the truest heros, but now I see them as victims... not just the dead, but each and every uniformed child that is sent off into a fight that shouldn't have to happen.

Very touching, PDV.

Interesting, Sharon and incredibly true.
There's nothing like a bit of honesty to make reality sink in.
As always, you've written a beautiful and stirring piece.

I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

wonderful.

"Turn your back on politics

So well said.  Thank you for a heartening, yet sad tome...

Cool and to the point.  This poem delivers its strong message without getting too weepy.
