I wait
breathing desperately
assigned to this bush
wait for the red
they said
aim
carefully
I agree within
my dread

A test of my skill
or of my
bombast
or just another
rifle
waiting
for dawn’s first blast

This is my
war
not my father’s
this is my
life
of freedom
horizon gathers

Then it’s time
the red
appears
he is young
not what
I expected
he’s like me
in every way
except
he’s misdirected

I have him
in my sight
my rifle
on my shoulder
can he hear me
breathing
behind my
sheltering boulder

I close my eyes
shoot
then run
without
knowing
if he is shot
home beckons
my stumbles
am I brave
no
I think not.

I love the weight, depth and urgency of this poem, Sharon. Like little bullets for the mind...

I'm going to think on this over the weekend, and try to have a revolution poem of my own for Monday.

Long live the cause!

THIS is my favorite...even though I understand why you clarified the intent...I liked it better as an ambiguous metaphor...but that's just the comanche in me relating here...

I really DO love this'n, as you already KNOW---must be some kind of PERSONAL issue with me, huh?

love you!
