“Castilian,”
She was telling the man.
“Her people had come to this country
Long before and at one time had land grants
Giving them many thousands of acres,
But, the war with Mexico
Had stripped her family,
Once proud,
Into bare existence”

I sipped my drink listening,
Wondering
If history
Got in her way today,
If she carried the resentment
Of her family’s loss still,
Or if it was just a point
She made to
Establish class.

She looked the part,
Fine featured and a beauty
That held her head up,
Looked you in the eyes,
Then flashed a smile
To disarm.

Castilian perhaps
But no longer
privileged
Except when it came
Her looks
And her story.

I paid the bartender,
And walked past her table
To take one more glance,
But she did not notice.

She only smiled
For her grandson today.

Su belleza es como la tierra
eterna y llenada de historia

Are you marking your spot? Is there a treasure under there?

I KNEW you were going to do this---so I WAITED.

You have such a talent for characterization I think I'm gonna bug you until you write that novel...besides I'm not convinced about that cabin, yanno...ever occur to you that maybe I'm not running FROM but perhaps, TO? And if you keep writing like this? I'm gonna start calling you "guru-ron-daddy"

guru-ron-daddy???? Now Ser... I'm no guru...

well... I started it here and it seemed it should be finished here as well. Novel huh? nah kid, I'm much too boring to do a novel. I'd never hold a thought long enough to complete it... my mind is like a big strainer you know... full of holes and only good for draining the bif stuff...

One does not need to run to unless they are finding something lacking in their current place that makes them want to move. This would mean they were running from something that was missing or lacking in the place they were to begin with. Rarely does one find that they themselves are different in another place if they explore the root elements of their being. I suggest, to truly find the things one wants and needs, they identify them, analyze why they are not in their life already, and then decide how to change things so that the probability of the individual achieving them or finding them is improved. It does not mean or guarranty you will be successful in your endeavor, but it does mean you will have exerted you influence and control over the situation as best you could and therefore build self esteem. Now, a change in locaton can be beneficial in eliminating the influences that are destructive, but changing locations is not the final answer, it begins with action inside yourself and concludes with assimilating the knowledge learned by your efforts and using it to effect change for the better..

It's too hard to behave in this town.

Then my friend... I take you to the other part of what was said... and ask you how, besides waiting for manna from heaven do you change the location you presently occupy?

I do not disagree with your comment about it being an unhealthy place for you... but to truly change that requires you to take responsibility for where you are and take steps to change it. :<

baby steps are totally acceptable..
one does not need to tackle the whole issue, but break the issue into smaller elements that can be effected with little effort. this way one makes and shows progress, while not being overwhelmed by the enormity of the total...

ya know I lov ya girl!

See? Thank you "guru-ron-daddy!"

It occurred to me once that I spend half of my life trying to make myself "smart" and the other half trying to "get stupid"--ah...an epiphany!

(chuckling) I didn't tell you anything you don't already know.... so don't go playing the epiphany card on me... besides that word always sounds like someone trying to talk with a mouth full of cotton...

yeah ... well I hope it didn't leave a big scar! I've heard them epiphanix surgeries can do that if the Doc don't use the right stitch....

Use it at HOME!!! Just because the people around you don't use it doesn't mean you shouldn't. I'm not saying be highbrow on everyone, but don't limit yourself simply because those around you are.

Now..I gotta get my self home. I think I hear a bud light calling me...

ah, Ron
thank you for bringing this back
I've never responded to your writes
but they have been read
sometimes?
I don't know how to say
what needs to be said
so I don't
I want to thank you for a few things...
Ed is a friend of mine
and a coworker
thankyou for recognizing
the ability and respect required
to hold Iambe's pen
in him
You two
cut from the same cloth, methinks
Thanks for lookin out for
and pushing
the rare visionary voice
of a certain squirrel
and, finally
for being the self-deprecating GURU
to my New Orleans Other Half
She is my THOUGHT
and though 1000 miles
and various Named Hurdles
separate
I know she is okay
because she has people like you
and Mike and Ed and many other folks
in PIP watching out for her
and I appreciate everyone
so
thank you, sir
for you

Hey Brian,
you said a bunch of nice things
you be careful or I may think
you're hitting on me!
(laughing about thread in PIP Talk)

Seriously...
thank for the nice words, but you know..
it doesn't matter if you read or reply to anything I write. Heck..I wonder why I write them sometimes myself.

NOw.. I started to write a whole long answer to you...
think I will just say "Nice to meet you!"
and thank you one more time...

Now where did I put those aspirin?
ah there they are..
snap..
chick chickchick
slurp...
swallow...

mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmmm mmm
mmmm
mmmmmmm

Hey dude...

no need to thank me for nothing...

Wow.  20 replies and 5 people have replied.

Very cool writing, Ron.  I like how your focus in this poem is on the story, and the clarity of it.  After reading a lot from Serenity and Elizabeth Cor, I could do with some of that old time clarity...

Yes, I loved the straightforwardness of this poem. (Is that a word? Too lazy to check.) It's too late at night for me, so I'll come back tomorrow, if I can, and perhaps say something more intelligent. For now, I really enjoyed the poem.
