Wail on dear Waylon
There's a band awaitin
to welcome you home
to that final stage,
with all those others
who didn't listen to their mamas
but grew up to be cowboys
playin guitars and singin songs.
We will miss you, wailin Waylon.
Waylon Jennings passed on today
to that final stage, where
his music, he will still play.

"I've always felt that blues, rock 'n' roll and country are just about a beat apart."
- Waylon Jennings www.waylon.com

Yes, Sunshine. He'll be there with one I knew personally as a very young girl. Ritchie Valens, who died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and Big Bopper Richardson. Waylon was supposed to be on the plane that day, but gave up his seat to the Bopper. Ritchie (Ricardo Valenzuela) went to my Jr and Sr High Schools, and was older than me by a few years. But he used to sing to us after school, initially imitating Elvis and once in a while, doing his original stuff. I remember hearing La Bamba and Donna before they ever hit the radio. We all looked up to him as our small town musical hero. Waylon was an outlaw in many ways, but a musical hero to many since the 60's. Wow, I am rambling now, down a musical memory lane.

Wow, you had some interesting high school years, I see.
I also send a sad farewell to Waylon, gone too young. A wonderful musician.

Sandra, thanks for the reply.
Larry, I heard he was hospitalized in Arizona. He may be gone, but his music and soul won't be forgotten. Music outlaws never really die.

Kacy, I didn't even know this until I read your piece.  Oh dear...another great recording artist and wonderful human being gone.
Just like when the other three you mentioned went down in the plane crash.....
'the day the music died.'
You sure stirred up a lot of memories tonight.

~Hugs for this one Kacy~

I didn’t know Waylon had died today, thanks for telling me. You always write such wonderful tributes. And I love your ramble about Ritchie Valens…how cool was that…actually hearing him sing his songs before they became hits.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

This poem could be a song itself. Very nice, midnite. He will indeed be missed. The icons are disappearing....

The only two things in life that make it worth living
Is guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women
I don't need my name in the marquee lights
I got my song and I got you with me tonight
Maybe it's time we got back to the basic of love
Let's go to Luckenbach Texas,
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams pain songs
Newberry's train songs
And Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach Texas
Ain't nobody feelin' no pain
So baby let's sell your diamond ring,
buy some boots and faded jeans and go away
This coat and tie is chokin' me
In your high society, you cry all day
We've been so busy keepin' up with the Jones'
four car garage and we're still buildin' on
Maybe it's time we got back to basics of love
Let's go to Luckenbach Texas,
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams pain songs
Newberry's train songs
And Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach Texas
Ain't nobody feelin' no pain

a fine guitarist, outlaw musician with the integrity to play and sing his heart and soul......

he will surely be missed and hearing of his death reminded me of these lyrics...

your poem is a great tribute!

A beautiful tribute, Kacy....but somehow, I just cannot imagine Waylon Jennings with a halo.

I was a sailor, I was born upon the tide,
With the sea I did abide,
I sailed a schooner round the horn of Mexico,
I went aloft and furled the main sail in a blow,
And when the yard broke off they say that I got killed,
But I am living still

waylon will never die as long as he is in the hearts and souls of his fans.  i am a very young country fan but waylon was quickly becoming an idol of mine.  if it wasnt for that outlaw this outlaw would not be playin today.  thank you waylon and this is a great poem to a geart man.  now you can join the bopper, freddy and buddy in heavens great band

Thanks doreen, I'd been trying to remember the words to that song for hours.

And thanks Kacy, I've come to think of you as PIP's news anchor!

I was so sorry to hear that Waylon had died.  I've got a lot of good memories listening to Waylon, Willie and the boys.

Jessie! Wow, I am so honored and delighted to see you posting tonight! Hope you are healing well. Yes, Waylon will have lots of company in the spirit world, no matter which cosmic wave he may ride upon.

Duncan, LOL, the news anchor? Maybe that's what's wrong, "I've been looking for work in all the wrong places...." oops, that should have said Love I think.
(Come to think of it, maybe I should be a LOVE reporter?)
RosePetals, yes, it will be a sad day for her, and Shooter.
Karen, thanks. Guess we will all be remembering him tomorrow, and that line about "the basics of Love."
