         The Doubting Valentine

Are you the blossom that I would pick
     had I the license
          to reach into this garden?

Are you the fragrance that I would inhale
     had I the courage
          to open this swelling bud?

Are you the watercolor that I would paint
     had I the vision
          to look beyond this scene?

Are you the melody that I would hear
     had I the strength
          to pluck this golden harp?

Am I the harmony that I would sing
     had I the voice
          to air this hidden score?

Are you the sweetness that I would savor
     had I the thirst
          to sample your fine wine?

Are you the pink flesh that I would devour
     had I the hunger
to taste your fresh ripe fruit?

We are the symphony that we would write
     had we the timing
          to compose together.

We are the gifts that we would give
     had we the freedom
          to celebrate this day.

What sweet longing you have written here. I love the style of this piece, as well as all it has to say. I was going to pick out a favourite stanza…but I love them all so much that I couldn’t.

And would the melody
enhance the lyrics?
and would the cadence
be as sublime
as these lines
you've just penned?

Very well written, Krawdad, and inspirational.
