I rolled into Cowtown- Feeling pretty low. I’d mailed ahead my entries- To the Fort Worth rodeo. I checked into a Motel 6- Old Tom left on the light... To try and catch me forty winks, I have to ride tonight. The bulls are getting tougher- Or I am slowing down- I can’t seem to remember, My last real good go-round. It’s burger-deals, and chips and dip- And coffee by the pot... Most nights will finding me sleeping In some Shoney’s parking lot. All my friends can say is that- “He’s got a lot of try!” My youth I may have wasted, But I’ll cowboy till I die. |

  (sigh) Such a powerfully bittersweet poem, sweet friend, you will always be the wonderful friend and cowboy we all love so much and the spirit of the child will always shine in you, riding among the horses to many free worlds and places!
