*this one is for my Father. . . it's been 24 years on Friday since he left this plane. . .*

I'm trying to remember what it's like
how it used to be back then
I had my whole life ahead of me
it seemed you did too

and so, there we were
Father and Son
just like so many other fathers and sons
mirror images of each other
but yet never admitting that
we were anything like each other

you probably would have said that
you were nothing like me when
you were my age
and
I never really noticed how much
I'm like you now, it was something that
I didn't deny, just something I never saw

I wake up in the morning
and I look in the mirror
and I remember seeing you look into
that same mirror
do you see what I see?
did you see what I saw?
or, were our eyes still focused beyond?

Mom says I have so much of you in me
your hair
          your eyes
                   your silly sense of humor
          your hands
your temper
but really, those were things that
I never got to see in you

I was too busy looking at you
through a Son's eyes
at that age where I still both
loved and feared you
you were still my Hero
and I was still your Son
I never really got the chance
to hate you
although, I probably would never have

because I was the Son
and you were the Father
and in our eyes

we've always been the same

Sven, this is incredible writing, about the relationship with your father, albeit brief as it sounds, and the way you saw one another.  As I read, I smiled at parts, and other times had a lump in my throat thinking about my own father who has passed over, as well.  Thank you for this one my friend.

Oh, this is wonderful, a heart touching tribute. I bet he has tears in his eyes, after reading it, too. I truly believe that he sees it, on whichever plane he is now.

Sven - this is very touching to me. I feel many of these same things only different, if you know what I mean. I miss mine also, especially the fishing trips when I was younger...

Sven...this made me think of a day when I
was sitting next to my dad....who I always
thought was a lot like my Brother...

He told me that he and I were just alike...
Two peas in a pod....I will never forget
that moment....or the warm feeling it gave
me...

Thank you for sharing this with me...

Very sad, but a tremendous write. I know how it feels to think back to your dad. To us all, it seems like we just don't get enough time with the ones we love. I hope all is well with you. I'm sure your dad is looking down on you with a smile at the wonderful man you became.

thank you all my friends. . . it's nice to be back, I know that I've been away for a while. . .

yes, it's been 24 years. . . I would have never believed it, had I not known it to be true. . . it seems like a lifetime ago. . . and yet, it seems like it was just yesterday. . .

thank you all again. . .

Unresolved issues and unspoken words. Denied resemblances and the shared traits of blood. I've lived these words but was fortunate enough to have exchanged apologies at the very end. Still haunting. Enjoyed.

John,

This is brilliant.  I liked it very much.  Although I dread the thought of turning out like my mom.

Keep up the good work!

Take Care,

Sven- I really love this poem, my dad lives with me and I look exactly like him, physically and the same temperament which at times I'm not too proud of. I never tell him I love him, but i do so much....I can only write it,why is it so difficult. I love the reflection this poem brought.

thank you all again my friends. . .

walker, why is it difficult?  I don't know. . . perhaps, you should write it out. . . and tell him that way. . .
