   Birth
(In memory of Michelle)

I could always feel you ponder
in dark eyed questioning
often lingering on despair
to repair the fighting that you took with you
from the womb
where you listened all curled and sucking
on a fragile finger

No doubt you heard my tears
and felt the vagrant sigh to sky
I wet you with my inner voice of screams
you felt my dreams
wild traitors that told the fear
of holding you and not knowing with what arms

For I was fallen myself
so how was I to catch you then
all squirm and too soon

I tried to place you at my table
by using the utensils with which my mother ate
but you were not a tool to play a mother’s rule
caught within my youth’s velvet purse
you were my fragile futures worst

How I loved your spirit’s flow
turning me into someone I didn’t know until
all my days were you adorned
your life the birthplace of my mourn

Martie, I know the writing will help...
and, I am so sorry for your loss of sweet Michelle.  I can only imagine as a mother the pain you must still feel...it is February.

I knew the words would come...I knew she would whisper upon the wind to you....
and I knew they would take my breath away...and touch me in places deep...
and she did...and they did....and you always do.... and I do so love reading you.
You always tell me my "butterfly" poems are from a deeper place, and reach a higher plane..."it takes one to know one" my dear Martie...and you are...and you do.
She is your sweetest muse

Without joy, there can be no sorrow,
without beauty, there can be no pain.
A poignant and beautiful poem Martie. Take care my poetic friend.

I have to ride on Tim's comment for it is sad but so true, that without loss, the treasures of memories would never be realized.  I am sure you have so many wonderful ones, and your heart hangs onto those and that will be the birth of your acceptance.  Sometimes this screen is a pain you know that?  I wish I could just give you a real hug not a cyber one, but know this, I care. Wonderful writing Martie on a very poignant matter, love and loss.

There is a sorrowful fulfillment in knowing of a loss, shared...knowing that you have gone through all of this, with a wry smile on days of sun, and a tear-filled heart on days of gray...

but overall, you have shown us how to persevere, no matter what...I am SO very proud of your accomplishments, as Michelle is...and I can think of no poet more worthy of the recent honor bestowed on you for the sharing of Michelle's memory.  Hugs to you, little one...
