Had I Known

Had I known then
that life would be so lifeless
that fairytales would lose happy endings in the break of heart
I would not have borrowed that glass slipper.

Perhaps I flew to the moon too soon
and plucked red roses not yet in bloom,
maybe I kissed one too many frogs
in search of a fated one
who never really existed in play
of savouring the seeds of carefree days
that are now infertile of hope.

If only I was taught, and, if only I knew
oasis only lasts for a season or two
that time's resplendent of colour would mute to gray
giving way to the simple things slipping away
through the hourglass of inevitability
to cause the rich of my cream of dreams to sour
at the curdle of love's goodbye.

No one told me that I would fall
no one ever warned me that fear
would cause my skin to build a wall
leaving prince charming out in the cold,
though I'm the one who's chilled to the bone.

Had I known then
that when you wish upon a star
sometimes it leads you much too far
into a harsh reality
that tears would sting through alone
had I known
I never would have danced.

oh Melissa,
even knowing, you should dance....it's what your heart is for this made my eyes sting...I remember feeling this way, and being so sad....it wasn't who I was, so I kicked my shoes off(and kicked that wall down)....and I danced..... *hugs* to you

Well...this season will pass also. What an incredible write. A keeper. If only we could spare you the pain...

Well...if you know ahead of time what is coming, we would never enter any relationships and could never take from that, experience to use the next time we are involved with someone.  This was very sad, as I think you can take from any relationship something good, if only the experience to never have one like it again   I am so sorry for those that get stuck in the pain, and realize it was not them but issues with "their stuff", they will never change and of course are ultimately better off without them, as you can't change anyone nor should you.  Oh see what you did, you made me think.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Melissa, this is so very sad, my heart goes out to you and your tears! (big hugggssssss) Sometimes we can wish upon a star that only dims, but there will always be this one star that will hold a promise of true love exclusively for you eternally! Always believe in your heart, sweet friend, for love will come to you! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is sad but gorgeous! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Melis, you write your emotions with such a depth ... sad or not...your pen reaches deep with every write. That and they way you take a theme or idea and work it to perfection  all the way thru the poem. Then there is your gift of imagery and rhyme.
Your a gifted poetess dear one...you need to see your beauty.
me thinks you need to drink champagne from that glass slipper.
"Beautiful writing" sweets.

You speak to me in riddles and you speak to me in rhymes.
My body aches to breathe your breath ... your words keep me alive.

Oh Melissa, you always write my heart. Its so sad that the fairy tale cannot come true.
But I think it is worth the dance, in the end, even if it does only last a season or two.

Melissa, dear heart...I've found that the deeper the pain, the deeper the appreciation when love is finally our reality. We don't want to hear it, but it is a spiritual given. This is a beautiful poem...and beautiful you will prevail and God will fill your life to overflowing, just you wait and see, and just when you're not looking too!! all my love, Ellie

*sigh* I have wondered the same but then I look at the person I became through all the hurt and pain and find that I love myself and that without the pain I never would have become who I am today...**big hugs** Have hope and do not let your wall become too thick for you never know when life will grant your wish...

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Never regret the dance!!!  And don't ever give up on fairy tales!!!  I know what it feels like to get your heart broken but those years/months/days/seconds of being in love makes it all worth while.  Don't worry "someday you're prince will come"

we have to dance. . . for the steps will always take us to new places. . . and teach us the lessons of life. . . even those we don't want to learn. . .

well done. . .I've missed your work. . .

Melissa,
Beautiful as always..... I wouldn't change a word, except for the outcome, only to make it come true...  You truly speak from your heart, and that is perfection..... Don't ever stop dreaming or writing.... You are an incredible poet......
