She held the precious
blue shawl in her
gnarled hands
feeling its softness,
seeing the intricate beauty
of its design, its sky blue
color with the white fringe.
And, she thought of a time
when she was followed after,
when the blue shawl captured
her beauty, captured the hearts
of many brave warriors.Great,
great, grandmother had worn it
many summers before.Then,
she had worn it with joy;
for it represented all
of the ancient ways, the sacred
songs. She as a promise
wrapped in the blue shawl of love,
dancing to the pulse
~~~~~~~~~~of its drums.
But today, she gently removed
the blue shawl from
its wrappings
and placed it across
her weathered shoulders.
The Great Spirit was calling
to her soul.She would soon
shawl dance before Him.
And the blue shawl would
tell Him of the many moons
~~~~~~~~~~of her beauty.

This is excellent imagery here. I could see everything as if it were right in front of me.

We all hold something dear, handed down through the generations, a reflection of who and what we are, weather it be tangible, or simply a captive ideal.....like the blue shawl.....beautiful and vivid post dear friend!!!

Ivy..you write these ancient poems of lore
amongst our native americans so well...Makes
me feel like I should be wearing a headress.
And be stomping around a fire, chanting...

This was absolutely spellbinding and held me to the end, and you wrote of the shawl dance perfectly.  I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Ivy Rose,
I can see the blue shawl dancer with the great sky spirit even as I read this. Excellent work

I read this yesterday, but didn't get a chance to reply... and thought of it again last night as I watched the native dancers participating in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games. *S* This is magnificent... one for remembering and revisiting over and over. *S* Into my library! *S*
