Convergence
(An Ode to Friendship)

i tell you how alone i have been
so you can know how much
you have brought me;
you, and yours...

gifts of selves
the selfish and the whole
the ones we always manage
to hide
the ones we've always managed
to hide behind
there the weakness
there the unthinkable shame
there the craven, wanting, needful
creature
keeping to the safe, the road
most taken
there the strength
there the belief that as a spider
spins out a filament so strong
it surpasses the strength of steel
(to span an emptiness)
so can we weave
-- from darkness and doubt,
from the juxtaposition of
differences --
and again, weave, a tie
to bind spirit to spirit...
and there perhaps a deeper fall
and there perhaps a strength made
stronger

i spell out comfort with pillow-talk
and drive out the cold with warmth
that i hope will never have an absent day
and yes, oh yes...
the scroll of friends, ever changing names
all silver..all gold...
"unforgettable...that's what you are...
in every way...and forevermore that's how
you'll stay...."

i spell out my joy
with the sum of my sorrows
snatch out that sunbeam like it was
a brush
to paint raindrops off my
window-pane...
there the dark, the unknown, the deluge...
there the unbearable feather-flight
of my soul

there... convergence

(Note: i just had to borrow nk cole's lines for that
part ("_"). i felt his song said it better. if
this makes the work less than desired, please
forgive me.  if this was a work i had planned
for publication, i would not have included it.

to the moderators: if i have broken a cardinal
rule in including a quote, please feel free to
   take the entire work out.)

What a beautiful poem! I love it. There is nothing wrong with using anothers words like that, as you put it into quotes and also credited the source. I really like the content and the flow of your ideas, and look forward to reading more. Thank you for sharing this one.

May the ripple of LOVE
become the wave of PEACE
