state of confusion

I have witnessed these badlands before,
first, from a child’s rear window view,
keeping a wary eye
for the evil that surely lurked there;

then, my first solo camping trip,
speeding past flood-eroded landscapes,
alien valleys
winding wildly
into
ever narrowing gullies –

I hurried
to the normalcy of Anza Borrego
with its abundant flowering cacti,
soft, sandy trails,
and rocky slopes
sparkling with Pegleg’s gold –

there,
I bathed in warm sulfur springs
with the spirits
of the Kumeyaay,
reassured by signs
of life.

Ushered in on
whispers
of Santa Ana winds
wastelands
are more than an omen.

(smiles) Wow, your words always create such breathtaking visions as though I am seeing all you saw, this is wonderful! I too have been down to the canyons and to wastelands, Chaco Canyon in New Mexico is a very pretty place I went to last spring, and during the rainy seasons, the arroyos always get flooded pretty bad, but otherwise, it's so very dry, but the canyon is just gorgeous! (kiss on cheek) You are a true Travel Agent of Words, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corrine, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

An excellent view of a place that everyone should see.

Thank you.

The badlands left me with an eerie feeling when I saw them.....I loved the imagery in your poem, it reminded me of the feelings I experienced while in South Dakota....I think I would like to go to New Mexico and Arizona and those areas sometime too...so many neat places exist in the world.  Well written!
