This poem is for my father in law, the father of my first husband

The Patriarch

You are the family patriarch
father and grandfather to us all
like a sturdy old oak
you stand so tall

you've lived so long
yet still, you're strong
like glue, we have a special bond
of love and life and faith beyond

with the wisdom of the ages
you are a book of many pages
and each page tells a story
of pain or love or glory

there is a special grace
to the lines etched on your face
that echo happiness and tears
you've known throughout your many years

I am the wife of your son
who too soon, died
together, we've oft reminisced and cried

and so, my father...you'll always be
I'll be your daughter, eternally

Lyra - It has been awhile, but I have a little time, so I thought I'd check in.

This is such a great dedication to your father in-law.  I remember when you posted this one on MT.

I hope everything is going well.

Dave...its so good to see you here.  Where have you been?  I was wondering if you hadn't been here because you were too busy eating that disgusting NY pizza that you love so much.  Thanks for stopping by.][/URL]

Lyra - I was at a Pizza Clinic, and I am proud to say I've kicked the habit.  My pizza addiction has been licked.lol

The real story, I have just been really busy lately.  Pretty mysterious, huh.lol

Where is this pizza clinic, Dave...I can't believe you actually went to one...but knowing you...maybe I can believe it.
Now you have to try some Michigan pizza...remember it comes from Middle Earth and its made by the Hobbits, so it has to be good.  The name of my favorite place is Bilbo's Pizza.
