~* The Present *~
Mysteria 03/2001

He said, “Mom, I am burnt out, overwhelmed in stress again.
What am I doing so wrong that 24 hours needs to be 36?”
I said, “Each of us plays at the game of life
by constantly juggling balls in the air
as we hold our destiny in our hands.
Our work, family, health, friends, faith, and spirit
are all constantly in or out of our control and in motion.
If you drop your work it will always bounce back
but any of the other balls drop they will be damaged,
and it is not likely they will ever be the same.”

He asked, “How do you juggle all you do then?”
We’ve talked like this before but I start again.
I don’t compare myself to others
it’s impossible as we are all different,
with dissimilar goals that we deem important.
I want nothing more than I have,
and if someone needs it more, I give it to them.
I hold close those things sacred to my heart, like you,
for without them life holds no meaning for me.
It is imperative to find yourself first,
before you can find what really makes you happy.
If you get satisfaction or approval from external sources,
I call that the devil’s Band-Aid, it’s only temporary.
I live for today only, this hour, this minute,
for it only be here once and then it will be gone.
Yesterday is my history.
Ah, and tomorrow is a mystery.

He said, “How do you do all you do without feeling any stress?”
I never stop trying to reach for my goals,
or all my dreams would soon be over.
Remember Son there is nothing perfect in life,
so take risks, be brave, but juggle carefully.
Be open to love for if you first give it
that is the quickest way to receive it.
Never hold onto it too tightly or you may loose it,
in fact, give it wings to fly.
Do all things in moderation and go slowly.
Never rush or you will not even begin to realize
where you have been or where you are even heading.

You asked, “Why should I take time out to help others?”
Never forget to validate your fellow man,
regardless of their status, for it could be an angel.
Knowledge is a gift, take it and use it wisely, share it.
Use your words carefully as they can never be taken back.

I said, “Son, these two lines will sum it all up for you.”
Remember, life is a journey, not a race.
Today is a gift that is why we call it “the present”.

He said with a smile, “Mom, we should do this more often.”
He left with a hug and a kiss, and I knew that maybe today at least one ball wouldn’t get dropped too many times.  I smiled knowing we would talk again when he needed me.

This is a fictitious account of many conversations over the years with a young boy who became a wonderful man, and not to be taken as something recent.  Actually I am so proud of my son, his "juggling" and I also like him! but was thinking about this so decided to record our little "wisdom words" over the years, so he could have them for the girls.  Thanks you for your comments.

Each of you that commented I know already know these words and do live by them as so many wonderful people in here do, this is for those to read that treasure "stuff" more than time and perhaps they needed reminding that the greatest gifts are the ones we give ourselves.     Thank you Pipplets!

This is beyond being just a keeper. It's the heart and soul and the breath of life.
I'm with Karen on her suggestion, write it across the skies. Thank you for caring and sharing the breath of you, and the breadth of you.
