I Call Her in My Dreams

by Michael

I call her in my dreams at night
I whisper all the day
I've seen her in the twilight
As she strolls along the way

But it's not her, this captured gaze
So short would be her life
Just seagulls on an evening breeze
It is not her, my wife

In days now lost she clung to me
Until that day drew near
A breath of love we whispered free
I whisper still, my dear

I long to have her back with me
So I no longer mourn
And hold her through the dark, still night
Until the day is born

The house is as it was that day
With all her things in place
As though she will be coming back
And I will see her face

But deep within I know she's gone
To never be again
Soft melodies she used to hum
How I remember when

As sky becomes a dusty lace
And azure melts to gray
Soft starlight paints the scenery
As shadows show the way

She is not here this quiet night
Fate took revenge, it seems
She has now lost herself in light
And I am lost in dreams

Michael

You have written such true emotion, and done it with just perfect words.
