Flightless Bird

strangers now
surround you
and hang on
every word
you alone
made a choice
picking what
you preferred
now you call
saying to me
without my love
you can not live
its not your love
it’s the way you love
that I
can not forgive
then comes
the promises
the same ones
of change
ones I wanted
to believe in
but they
are out of range
I know
all about change
it can be
a flightless bird
and never
takes off
if nothing
has occurred
you had a chance
to love me
but giving love to me
was denied
you broke
my heart
now I just bruise
your pride
