The old man

He was lying on the sidewalk
Looking old and frail and sad
The little boy said Mister
Are you feeling bad?
You look so cold and look so old
Can I do anything to help?

The old man could hardly whisper
I'm OK he said though he was almost dead
The little boy took off his coat; it was his very best
And spread it carefully on the old man's chest.

Maybe this will help a little bit the little boy said
I don't really need it
Cause I have other coats at home
Maybe it will keep you warm until some help comes along.

The old man whispered in a low tone of joy
God bless you little boy, you're the finest boy I've ever known
Then the old man turned his head and died.

Thank you, floria for your kind thoughts. Yes, there are many wonderful people, and many wonderful children. In fact, there are more good ones, I believe than bad ones. And when we teach them love, by example and words, and then reward them for loving, to show we really mean it, I believe it's hard for a child not to be good.

How very touching. I so hate to think of homeless people, and the little boy is such an example for the way we should all treat eachother.

Newell darling boy this is utterly utterly outstanding. You made me cry darling boy, such an act of love from the little boy. Truly this is one fabulous story you've written, utterly outstanding.

And maybe the love that shines in this poem will reflect into the readers hearts and we shall see some amazing beam of pure love coming from all over the world. Triggered by this amazing piece from you. It will pour through the cosmos and mingle with HIS love and light and HE will smile with joy. This is utterly excellent

I love it darling boy, truly I do. And even if this just stirs one heart and it stirred mine, it will not have existed in vain. Absolutely fabulous writing from you
