The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2002-02-01 10:23 PM

A mermaid fairest sat alone
upon the edge of waters deep
She saw him clearly in her heart
the special man that she would keep.

She sang her tantalizing song
as misty tears fell from her eyes
Her visions told her he would come
If he did not, she'd surely die.

The moon grew full one lilac night
amethyst shadows on her hair
her song, more plaintive, full of pain
twas this that drew her lover there.

Her reached for her, held out his hand
but blackened waves stood in between
She shook her head, it was his choice,
he must walk in, for it was seen.

A mortal man of strongest heart
must give up all to be the one
to be a mermaids lover, thus
his life on shore forever done.

Others had faltered at this point
in fear they could not pay the price
But not this time, for he was born
to make this journey through the ice.

He stepped through time and held her close
her eyes glowed lavender that night
No longer would she sing alone
His kisses changed her world to right.

They swam together underneath
as magic sparkled from the moon
for legend now had become fact
Listen, you may still hear her croon..

Ah Sandra, this is sweetly beautiful!  I can see Noah really enjoyed as well!  This is my favourite verse..not just because it contains the word 'magic' in it!

~Great write, hugs, Nancy~

Sandra, I loved this bit of fantasy. but at the end, somehow I wanted to change it to "feel her swoon" instead of hear her croon, except I wasn't sure about 'listening' to her swoon. ?? Just my first reaction. Maybe I just like to swoon?
