And another pet bites the dust
in the midst of winter, it was lust
the urge to battle and defend its turf
off onto the road and away with its mirth.

The others have come and gone with time
such went Taffy, winters ago, in her prime
family dog, ran away from a private kennel
looking for my mom and her baked goods with fennel.

Then went Smokey the cat, a name I borrowed
kept me company as a foreign student of sorrows;
kept the mice away from my rural veggie patch
hit by a car and dumped into a local sac.

Such went the parakeets we all tamed in the house
my sister stepped on one and felt like a louse
the bird flew to my mom's breast in haste
but its number came up, oh what a waste.

tropical fish, I kept in an aquarium
lived until that crashed in time immemorial,
My fault this time, I caused a leg to collapse
served me right, this expense was my last.

It is sad to say soon after arrival, they go away
they give us joy and accidents take them astray,
on this planet, lonely man was given select prizes
to be courted by domestic creatures of different sizes.

(big hugggssssssss) Such a sad but true poem, sweet freind, it always makes me cry when accidents like this happen, but it is understandable, and I pray we can all learn to care for our pets better! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is fabulous! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Martin,
I had some tadpoles that I parboiled on a windowsill...I was very attached to them they lasted a whole day in my care. *Worried frown* Do you think I should have some grief counselling?

I really enjoyed your poem, Martin.
This is the reason why I don't have pets.
People always outlive their pets...and if their pets outlive them, that might be even worse.
We used to have 2 cats.  One moved away with my son (thank goodness) and the other one...well we finally had to give him away because he was peeing and other things in my flower pots (inside of the house) but we didn't give him to the humane society...we were nice enough to find a family who didn't care where he relieved himself.  His name was Mr. Baxter, and I taught him how to answer the telephone as a project for a psychology class (this was before answering machines)....and he seems to have been resurrected in the TV ad for Meeow Mix....theres a cat who makes phone calls when he's hungry...and his name is Baxter.  Its almost too close to the truth to be fiction!  Anyway...sorry about your cat...but you wrote a very good poem!
