Everything is fine...just a little melancholy reflection!

The Treasure Chest in my Heart
By Larry Chadwick

I was going through the treasure chest of my heart,
And found some thoughts that were sent by you.
Little snippets of our love from days gone by,
Something about “roses are red and violets are blue”.

Funny but blue is what took me to that treasure chest,
All for the purpose of remembering you, sweetheart.
This chest is so old and full of many memories,
Here is the phone bill from the first time we were apart.

I’ll dig a little deeper and see what I can find in here,
Like this whole bouquet of foil balloons folded all flat.
I remember selecting that bouquet one by one,
And hauling them to our very first date…do you remember that?

Oh and here are those stack of letters I kept in a shoe box,
Couldn’t let you have them until it was proper to proclaim my love!
That was sure an exciting day that we shared,
The joy of watching you read one by one as if from above.

Or these concert tickets when only one was used,
You couldn’t go and it hurt us both when you said no.
I was sure glad we got another shot on the next tour,
It may have been a year later, but what a show.

I can’t help but love these pictures of you as a little girl,
Cute little blonde pigtails and a bandage on your knee.
I wish that I could have known you back then,
Yes that would have meant a lot to me.

But these pictures of you with your own babies,
So tender how you express your love to them too.
I wish we could have had some children of our own,
If only we had the opportunity to do that too.

Ah but these vacation pictures remind me I have no regrets,
Look at the laugh on your pretty face.
I’m glad we spent so much time on the road,
Gave us a chance to know each other and your grace.
Seems there wasn’t anything you wouldn’t do for love,
Camping in a tent and even sleeping under the stars above.
Okay I cooked and did the dishes when we were out,
But you made it all fun by your constant love.

As I reflect on so many wonderful things,
Like the way you loved my children and shared your grandkids,
I couldn’t help but realize what it means to open up ones heart,
And risk the pain that sorrow brings no matter what it is!

I said I would always love you and I know I always will,
But I never dreamed it could be this painful,
As I lay you in this grave…may the memories,
Always stay and the joy be ever strong…still reasons to be grateful.

And I’ll join you in the faraway someday!

Bill,
I probably need to put a disclaimer up. No loss. My wifes sister died February six on her 51st birthday in 1999. So just getting a little somber refelcting and though I would personalize it...anyway. I'm fine.

Chrissy,
Wow...thanks so much.

BluesSerenade,
Thank you I like that thought a lot!

Victoria,
Sorry...but this is jumping ahead and looking back. Not trying to be morbid. But this is the time of year my wife's sister died three yeara ago at 51 on her birthday.

SEA,
Really? Wow I can't believe I touched you so much. I like that, thanks.

Larry dear. I took my time with this one, I read is real slow to take in every single word. Sad, but I see so much love, and how lucky you were to have her. Life deals us some bad cards sometimes, all we can do is have faith and continue on till we see them again. God bless..floria

Okay Everybody...listen up!  I apologize. I have lost nobody. Just a little morbid future reflection. Please save your sympathys for those who need it. Sorry, I wasn't trying to confuse anyone.

floria,
I can't claim to know this kind of personal loss. I certainly don't desire it. But thought I would reflect on it just the same. Thanks.

Noah,
Sorry to confuse you. But thanks for your thoughts.

Larry, glad this a not so personal as it at first seemed. But you did quite a job with this subject. Gave me chills there at the end. You have such a loving heart to write something like this.

I know its not personal, Larry...but just the same, it really made me cry
It was so nostalgic and written with such heart!

Sandra,
Thank you so much for you kind words. And am so grateful it's not real.

Magnus,
Well...at times I'm not all that brave. Maybe, we'll see. Thanks.

Lauren,
Thank you for knowing...

Lyra,
I am amazed at the amount of loss represented among our poets here. Just had to know if I could do this. I'm grateful that it touched your heart. That means so much to me. Thanks.

Sue,
This poem came with a disclaimer and then several more in the responses. I apologize. There is no loss. So many here have had loss this was my attempt at empathy. But thank you so much for your kind words.

Alan,
Thank you so much.
