On that hot August morning you were born
it thundered hard
it rained, it stormed
our beloved son, our own first born

our beautiful Eric
always so much fun
perpetual motion
always on the run

never in my wildest thoughts
could I ever bear to dream
my beautiful son
that your lifetime would be
so soon done

a little boy who learned so fast
even as a child
your knowledge was vast

a mind so curious, ever wanting to know
your thirst for knowledge
caused you so much woe

you never could conform in school
when all they cared about was rules
and what they never understood
was that all you ever wanted, was to be good

it was just that all they tried to teach
you already knew
you were just so far beyond their reach

your intelligence couldn't be contained
your brightness burned until it blazed
a fire of such intensity
a shooting star, through all eternity

and so my dear beloved son
your genius a blessing as well as a curse
and that is why
upon this verse
my tears fall

a mother's sad tears for a wonderful son
all grown now, with children of his own
his beautiful life
too soon is done

Lyra~

I again extend my hand and heart to your loss, I do, know, sooo how this feels....and so young an age....

as you said time will heal....and all the better for it....be well, and peace to you....always

Lyra darling girl you know that there’s nothing anyone can say except I love you. This as all your writing about Eric shows how much you love him, and will continue to do so. He was a beautiful son, he had a beautiful mother and a wonderful life. Too soon gone indeed, but he blessed you with his presence and still does so, for he’s with you all the time you draw breath.

Take care of your heart darling girl and continue to celebrate the wonder of him in your writing, which you always do.

Do I love this poem? Yes it is superb, and you are wonderful utterly utterly wonderful

This gave me a very big lump in my throat. I can only imagine the pain and emptyness in your heart, and how each August must weigh so heavily on your mind and heart. He obviously gave you much joy, your poetry reveals much love and understanding. Hugs, and may the wonderful moments of his memory always be so strong for you as they are today.

Lyra,
may new love erase
those tears on your face.

although you will never forget him...you can choose to remember the thirty years of life.

Lyra~I am so sorry for the loss of your son at such a young age...it must seem at times to be too much to bear.  But, we do and we go on and remember the good times, all the happy memories.  God Bless, Nancy.

Lyra, this has so touched my heart. Tears..how very difficult it is, I know as I've been there and am there, It never gets better, I find that you just get stronger. But the ache doesn't go away, You think of all the things that could have been, should have been, Your writing is of love so well expressed, your love of your son shines in this. It is sad but a wonderful tribute to him. God bless. floria

Lyra, my heart is with you in your grief.
But your parting is only temperary. You son is waiting to sing with you in heaven. And then you will understand why your son was so important to God, that he called him early. May God comfort you and bless you.

Like your Son, so is a Mother's love,
"like a shooting star, through all eternity"

Such sorrow in your words,
and the purest kind of love.

God Bless~

Lauren...thanks so much for reading and replying...and of course thanks for extending your hand in friendship. It means a lot to me.

Marsha...thank you too, and I know that you are right. He is still with me.

Larry, thanks much...it is, was and always will be a tremendous loss.

Marge...thanks for your reply.  This is probably the worst thing that can ever happen to a parent.  I still love him dearly.

James...thanks so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this poem and replying to it.  My children are everything to me.

Maureen...thanks for your reply.

Keth...thanks for writing the little mini verse.  I don't know what I would do without David.  He kept our whole family together after Eric died.

Victoria...those poor parents...at least I have another child, but I almost lost him too, on Sept. 11.

Nancy...thanks so much for your reply.
It is excruciatingly painful. Thanks for understanding.

Floria...I know that you have been in my shoes and we are both members of the sad sorority of mothers who have lost children.
It doesn't matter at what age you lose them, the emptiness lives in your heart forever.

Thank you so much, Noah...I appreciate your sympathy and your tears for me.
