The Magic Show

Oh, I always knew the magic
of rainbows in the morning dew,
and necklaces of spider’s web
after a storm,
or the sound that serenades
dreams in cozy flannel winters,
but I always looked with human eyes.

Today,
I  saw the magic in raindrops
through the eyes of my
black feline friend,
with fur bejeweled
in rich display
of natures’ jewels.

She refused to come in
out of the rain,
instead she lounged on table
just outside the window,
mesmerized by raindrops
sliding down a plastic sheet
across the chair and down
onto the patio where a pool
was growing.

Each drop was like a diamond,
a marble of translucent hue,
that teased her paw,
for when she had it
it was gone
and another slid gracefully to
just beyond her reach.

The capture
had her baffled
as she flaunted,
chasing feline prowess
with sideways glance
then pounced with great stealth
upon a myriad of crystal balls
rolling-rolling
down
  down
into a pool of liquid silver.

‘Twas so,
I saw embarrassment
fleeting across whiskers
as she slid with grace undaunted,
like a skate boarder on stairs
that lead into a crash,
hers, the waiting sterling
of a cold splash.

Then with great dignity
she exited the stage
and left me with her caprice
and a smile.

Martie...this is great..I can see that slightly
wet cat out there trying so skillfully to
catch those raindrops...

Of course...your imagery is awesome as usual.

I felt like I was watching with you. Great words to form an image that is right in front of my nose. Marge T. told me to be sure to read all your poems - you are one of  the best at what you do. She is right.
