I Told You So
By Larry Chadwick

Every family has one,
In mine it is my mother.
But for some of you,
It may be your brother.

This may take a while,
You may have to think real hard.
Remember the Shell Answer Man,
He wore a Blazer reading from a card.

There never was a question,
That he couldn’t figure out.
It seems he knew it all,
And knew what it was about.

My mother was that way,
No matter what the topic.
From aunt Mabel’s goiter,
To things about the tropics.

So every day I’d check the mail,
To see if it was there.
Looking for her corporate jacket,
Thinking Shell would surely share.

The only confirmation I ever got,
Was the daily comments from my mother.
“I told you I was right, and I knew that.
Just ask me, it is no real bother.”

Ain’t it the truth Larry. There is at least one in every family. My dad is the worst for this in our family. He never hesitates to say I told you so…but we love him anyway. (Oh yeah, he's a nag too!!)

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

As my mom says, "I may not be right, but I'm never wrong." And I think I inherited it. Sigh.
