~If I Were A Poet~
inspired by ‘Deer’s I’ll never be a poet

I could if I were someone else write words that floated dreamily
Like the petals of a rose that falls onto the water then spin lazily
I could perhaps speak about crystal tears that flow ever on
Knowing that the sadness they spring from will n’er be gone
But I haven’t got the skill to spin a phrase into beauteous delight
Nor the power to make my words flow in a stream of liquid light
If I was someone else I might be able to make my words glow
But I’m not, the pattern’s wrong and they simply don’t flow

If I could I would take all these words that lie before me here
And spin dreams and magic from them all but I can’t I fear
If I were a writer like ‘Deer perhaps I could do a job like this
To make the words dance on the page or carry a poetic kiss
I’d write of love that is wrapped inside a lover’s aching heart
Or of love that is true while hearts are distant and far apart
If I were Kari I would write words spun from gold truly divine
But I’m not so the words don’t form and there’s no real rhyme

I could if I would, be a poet who writes words of hearts so sore
I’d write tales of love, tales of woe, and tales that said more
I’d conjure words from the air I’d make them shine and sing
If I were a poet I would find the words I’d do just about anything
My words aren’t able to enchant or delight your poetic soul
It’s not my writing that restores your hope and makes you whole
If I were a writer I’d write the words to illume your night
But I’m not, but if I were a poet I’d write oh yes how I’d write

Marsha, my dear.......YOU are definitely a poet in every sense of the word!
You have to stop pretending that you aren't one because I won't let you get away with it.
I LOVE your poetry! and this one is no exception!

I knew you were good at make believe and now you are trying to make us believe you are not a poet...shame, shame, shame. Do I love this...you know I do.

I think this will mush 'Deer quite well...we can never be someone else in their style of writing, we can only be ourselves, but don't we just love it when we look around and see everyone trying!!

Write on, Marsha, because through the mush of it all, we hear the morning song...

Newell darling boy you are a poet I’m a scribbler of rhyme, if ever you’ve seen my free verse you know I simply can’t write it well at all. A writer, which you are and I’m not, has range, and can adapt to various forms. I can’t really change what I do, so I say I’m a scribbler of rhyme and not a poet.

Thank you anyway I appreciate your love and support.

Lyra darling girl thank you so very very much. Truly you know there are writers and then there are WRITERS. In the same way there are poets poets and then there are POETS. If I am anything then it is a poet.  YOU are a wonderful writer, and I don’t envy you your talent I just enjoy it tremendously. Thank you darling girl because you always are incredibly loyal and sweet to me.

Keth darling sister of my heart and keeper of my smiles, You are telling fibs again darling heart. You are a terminologicalinexactatudeinarian, which is what my mama would say when I was stretching the truth a little. Only in your case you’re stretching it a lot.

I love you for it but YOU know you should stick to the truth, I know you have a preference for my writing darling heart but you still shouldn’t be quite so biased. MMmmm?

Kari darling sister of my soul Thank you dear heart You too have far more faith in my writing than ever I have had, another of my friends who let’s her personal preferences blind her to facts. I adore you for it but as I’ve said before there are poets and then there are poets
I am one of the later not the former, but I’m trying. And don’t add yes very trying I’m learning a lot, when I think how far I’ve come I almost get pleased until I read a real poet and see how much further I have to go. Everyone even the worst of us has some small writing gift, which pops out now and then. When my gift pops out from the dull and merely adequate a lot more than it does now, then I shall think I’ve made it. Of at least to the first benchmark

Until then I’ll stagger on trying to learn a little.
