A Taller Tale

Twilight slowly filled the sky, hung there, faded…died.
Erebus' thick mists enveloped the world
blocking all light save that from the fires of Hades,
and even that was muted by the veils of Nyx
closing across the sky, obscuring the heavens.
All was empty, silent; only the agonized cries of souls
living in the darkness where death dwells touched the ear.
Doom was born, and Fate, Death, Sleep…Dreams,
and all else that seeks one out in the Darkness.

In the beginning there was Chaos.
From the primordial mass all creation was sprung,
man walked from waters where nymphs sucked his blood,
spitting pieces of his soul into Hell
torturing the living dead with sprays of righteousness.

Somehow, Love was born, bringing order.
From Love, Light and Day, then Gaea, mother earth.
Man walked the land, drinking the waters,
became one with the beasts that supplied him food,
ate of the plants, each in their season, treated all with respect.

Then the Sun grew very hot, turned the skin of man a shade of red;
man liked this new color, asked the Great Spirit to let it stay.
Pleased with the way man treated His Creation, the Great Spirit agreed,
turned down the sun so no other man could  permanently be this color,
smiled, told them henceforth they would be known as - The People.

The American Indian was born.
