I turned them all away
even the ones I believed
when they said, ‘unconditionally’

even my favorite cat
and he doesn’t lie

no one can hold my hand through this
it is mine
alone
it is
my own doing

Duncan, this is amazing.. something to read over and over again.. because each time I felt I gained better understanding of your poetry.

Sometimes words can be double-edged.. yes?

Yes we have some saying in our destiny, but sometimes we just can't make the right choices. Great reflection here, D.

Hey you, what’s up? Sounds very reflective, very sad.  Maybe no one can hold your hand through this, but you know someone who’s gonna try.

Hmm...Why do we do that?  I guess if we knew the why, we'd be in a better place by now, huh?  I totally understand this piece.  I feel like it was written for me.  Love it!

It is in those times when we're alone that we get to know ourselves better.   And frankly, I like who I know...most of the time.

pep---Life, not just words, are double edged.  Wouldn't you agree?  Thank you for such time and thought.

Maureen---Wish I had thought of that blank thing.  Maybe I wouldn't have had to write this.  Your response is very appreciated.

Kit---Thank you so much.  It's cool to be related to, though I wish it was a happier relate.

walker---You know how bad my choices can be sometimes.  Thanks for being my buddy, anyway.  I always appreciate your words.

Tracey, my heart---Yes, I knew you would.  Though I don't deserve your hand, I humbly accept it.  Stop laughing.  I CAN be humble.

Noah---Thank you, you are someone I count on...whether you know it or not.  And I need that...whether I admit it or not.  Who said that?

Annie---I amaze you?  Well, that may just have made it all worthwhile.  The thought is mutual, by the way.  Thank you, sincerely.

Kay---I believe you do.  As always your words are my satisfaction.

James---Thanks for your response.  That doors a tricky thing, sometimes.

Floria---Thanks but don't feel sad for me.  I bounce back quicker than a slingshot.

Nightshade---Wow...I'm in a library.  Do I get paid for that?  Thank you, I mean that, just trying to be funny.  Was I?

BC---I'm beginning to appreciate your poetry as well.  Just not on here as often as I'd like.  Thank you.

Startime---It's not that I don't want someone to hold it, just it's alot to ask.  And I'm always grateful for hugs!

Keith---I only do a few words.  Thanks for pondering.  I appreciate the response.

dgv---You couldn't be more right!  Not shut off, though...I seem to be working on that.

Tenn Angel---If I knew that...I'd be in Canada.  Thank you.

Blues---I like who I know, also...most the time.  Just wasn't one of those nights, ya know?

Thank you all for responding to this poem.  At the risk of being overly dramatic...it got me through the night.

I totally understand this.  I just went through the death of my grandmoth, while in hte process of trying to get myself out of trouble...and in this I lost my fiance, because i wouldnt open up to him nad let him know how i was feeling.  I regret this big time now, and would do anything to get him back.  This poem totally hit home on how I was feeling...thank you.  I wish Kyle could have read this.

Hi Duncan,

I turned them all away
even the ones I believed
when they said, ‘unconditionally’

It's the unconditionally. To me that would put a soul into bondage. And we must always stay free! That's my take.

a few words with a powerful message.
Do know that it is yours, but just for a moment, after that moment loved ones, and yeah even your cat are waiting to share and care.

Duncan, today I am going out in the sunshine, which I haven't
felt for some time but I read this again, and it is such a deep
message here.  It reads like something I have felt, that sometimes
it's impossible to seek comfort from anyone or anything b/c we
feel somehow responsible.  The poem is very meaningful,
I'm not swingin' yet but the playground will be thawed out by spring....
hopefully...maybe in time for a repost.  take care and be well.
