My neighbor told me this when
at the mailbox we happened to meet.
He had gotten himself ‘in the doghouse’
with his wife this past week.

His wife and her older sister had
had a falling-out some years ago
over something important then,
but now the reason neither did know.

Only a couple of months back,
his wife’s sister had given her a call
wishing to resume friendly relations,
but his wife refused to talk with her at all.

This week my neighbor answered the phone.
After talking a while, he turned to his wife,
“Your sister has died. Her last regret was that you two
didn’t make up before she came to the end of her life.”

His grief-stricken wife broke down, wailing and sobbing.
Suddenly she was filled with remorse for having not
talked to her sister, healing their wounds. She’d thought
there was always time for that – but now there was not.

What a fool she had been! If only she hadn’t
been too stubborn to talk to her sister.
She’d feel regret and guilt all of her life. Oh Lord,
how much she now wished she could talk to her sister!

That’s precisely when my neighbor angered his wife
when he said “This is your sister calling you again.
She’s alive. I told you she was dead just to make you
think, so you’d realize how very foolish you have been.”

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh my gosh, this poem has me flooding in tears, this is soooooo emotionally beautiful, I can understand how angry she must have been for her neighbor to fake that passing but all the while I think he did the right thing to help her get closer with her loved ones! (big hugggssssss) Sooooooo very compassionately beautiful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet HEG, thank you for sharing!

May love and light alwyas shine upon you!

MAN! Where can I get one of those "second chances?" I am in dire need of some constructive recreationism...seriously though...very thought provoking...Rod
