There he stood, all clad in white
Yet one to accent, but a scarlet flower in his hand
Darkness around, within it he stood
Patience, like an emanating glow.

Distant noise of wars and cries
A sudden storm, a wild wind enveloped
But firm he stood and with clear voice
Made music to pierce the very gloom

The storm died down, slowly gave way
And from within it appeared the darkest of dark
The blackest of black, the strangest of all.
‘What are you doing here, again?’

‘I came here to see how you were
Vile as ever or if any improvement had occurred
If any wisdom had made its way
Through the maze into your mind’

‘Stop this folly, I have all I need
I do not need your preachings
I have survived and I have won
Leave me to my wealthy misery’

‘So you accept it?
Accept that you have a wealth of misery?
That you are below even mankind itself?
That you, once great with power, are but a nuisance?’

‘Nuisance?  I laugh!  I’m not it
You are!  You are the one your creatures mock!
What did you gain from your misery?
Nails in the hands and a foul garment?’

‘Mercy! Not misery.  Mercy is my wealth
By that I have lived, by that I shall forever live
Why?  Why are you as the likes of you?
Leave this foolishness and stop this battle’

‘I wish!  How I wish I had wisdom then!
But you let me fall.
Years I have roamed this creation of yours
Naught!  Naught I have found!’

‘So why not return and save your roaming
One choice. Not even! Only one decision!
The decision to gain yourself this white
Come from the black to the white!’

‘I cannot! I have pushed to far!
I have traveled the path that none dared before me
I cannot turn back.
Stop!  Do not fool me with your words!’

‘I do not fool you
You fool yourself.  Goodness there is in you
Listen to it!  Live better!
Take my hand!’

‘No!  You have not gained anything from your creatures
You created them – look at your pain and misery
What life is that to live
Life in constant and unending sorrow?’

‘Stop!  Creatures they are not!
And pain I do have, but pain well earned
I chose!  I chose the very nails
And I chose my death!’

‘Death is no way of living
Why the choice of pain?  Power you have
Use it and become yet greater!
Bring about things for your purpose.’

‘Purpose I already have and time carries it out
I chose, just like I ask you to choose
I chose for the love of mine to be divided so
I chose for my death to redeem my chosen!’

‘So be it!  Take your flower with you
Do not litter my territory with it
I have power and I will greater it
I will not have your folly!’

‘So be it’ and the flower fell from his hand
And as the storm had subsided, so it rose again
And encompassed the darkest of dark
And the place was void yet once more

Except for the flower, for it fell for long
And slowly it fell silently upon thousand others
And so that moment in History was logged
The Thousand and First Rose
Yet without avail.
