Porter carry my baggage
I’m totting all that I can manage
I have this perverse need to hold on
hanging onto old deeds now done.

From the boxes I collect
sift through notes, I neglect
painted memories, now windswept
on the edge of new doorsteps.

Through the notes, I collect
given chances for new mindsets
there's this uncanny need to discard
what my mind's eye had high regard.

Love will persist at finding value
to find new reason, to hold on
but the need for old information has now gone
So hang those canvasses of painted memories
now windswept and don't neglect new cues
ushered in the aisles and filling pews.

So it is with modern times
people more adept at rhymes
tell you of the need to discard
what the man's eye had high regard.

Porter, do you carry heavy loads
old boxes and princely toads?
my mind now sees closing curtains
the amount I have is somewhat uncertain.

Do not amass or accumulate
do not collect and then neglect
paint your memories and hang some
our days are counted
and some work was done.

Porter, take my baggage
a new destination calls
here comes my carriage.

Darn, Martin..how easily you write about this..I still have boxes and boxes of baggage to unload. Haven't found anyone who wants it, and I treasure it too much to trash.

Another great one, Martin...
Oh the baggage and boxes and papers we accumulate as we go through life!
It seems that the older we get...the more stuff we accumulate!
