Reflections II

It starts out from eager houses
from families eternally without sleep,
collections of spirits run in the dark
and knock on doors for a lark.

Goblins soon to greet your face
standing at night doorposts...is their race,
unsuspecting gents coming for treats
and no small children on the streets?

Tired city beats and stark corners
and families with needy spirits,
sending children on money trips
with world conflicts, coming to grips.

so I see costume parties,
people looking to change their guises
bombs raining down the sky, for surprises,
bags of fruit, wrapped tried treats
and think of Houdini's last magic feat.

What has carnival time to do
with conflicts you say that brew
well to keep world struggles away....
while the rich and religious have their way...

From the dark, there is nothing new
it's what we do that cannot change
the way we are on Shakespeare's stage;
when world power leaders lock their hands
aware of discontented youth in bands;
but let the young enjoy and pretend
that world conflicts will be at an end.

Very thought-provoking and well constructed poem. Not sure though,  that I agree with the philosophy--I'm not a youngster anymore but I do live in a carnival town...and not to get off on a tangent, but Carnival is  more of an ancient tradition tied well into Catholicism as well as Paganism/pantheism. True, bombs falling from the sky is a serious concern, but yet, I also know that I could step out of my door and be hit by a bus, or a vein could pop in my head as I shower. Sometimes ya just gotta make up your mind to live ANYWAY....laughing here now, I TOLD YA it was a thought-provoking poem! (not an easy job to jump start my brain either!) WELL DONE.

well thats what many of my poems are, thought provoking, I'd hate to be the cause of popping someones veins though, lol...but with the falling bombs maybe we might not have to worry about the other stuff
and I still want to go on living.
