DREAMS

“I have a dream,” said Martin King
and then his ears did woeful ring
as bullet held a vibrant sting
and stole his life away.

Children of a lesser time
witnessed such horrendous crime
screaming in their beds of lime
steeling them away.

Witnessing dreams
of good and bad
is what is bent
of lass and lad,
shaking in
their shoes they had
and slept their dreams away.

Riding on a solid horse,
winged and paunch
with lithe support,
whisking them
with grand report
through the universe’s sky.

One planet
then the next they find,
seeking love of any kind,
being sound of body
and of mind
they flit
on starlight’s stream.

This transpired out of a free write on dreams in an online workshop. Thought I'd share.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

thank you, Virginia, don't ever feel like your poems aren't read, I read them all, sometimes I miss one, but not often
