Your face is big and bright and square
as you fix me with your stoic glare
you speak in blurps and beeps and blips
a language spoken without lips

a hungry thief, you steal my time
an electronic monster, how sublime
you hold me captive, every day
as you slowly eat my hours away

but you've taken me places
I haven't yet seen
a friend, yet a foe
your presence has been

you keep me in touch with family and friends
through emails received
and those that I send

sometimes you won't work
"fatal error" you say
your face looks so cold
as you ruin my day

its hard to believe
when your face looks so mean
that in spite of our friendship
you're just a machine

a jumble of circuits
you haven't a care
but just how did I function
before you were here?

Hi, I'm Jaime.
I liked this, surely there is another person who actually works the machine.
I was wondering, since you are Chipmunk,
Do you know Simon ... Theodore ... Alvin ... ALvin ... ALVIN!!!!!!

Gentle Spirit...thanks for your reply...
and yes...I think thats something we all can relate to.........unfortunately!

Larry...thanks for taking the time to read and comment...The joy of which you speak, is not in the computer...but in the poetry it inspires...believe it or not, some of us get our inspirations from strange places.

Victoria...thanks for your reply...Isn't it amazing how we can't seem to live without our computers now.  Ten years ago, most of us didn't even have one...its easy to get spoiled...but then, my grandmother was so excited when she finally got a real refrigerator and didn't have to depend on an ice man to bring her blocks of ice for her ice chest.

Floria...LOL...My husband and I do the same thing...except he sometimes brings his laptop upstairs to my little study so that we can be together.  Sometimes when there is something wrong with my computer and I can't get online, I picture this giant bug inside of it!

Thanks for your replies, Sy and Noah...Aren't computers the most wonderful friends......until they have a fatal error!
Then I always feel guilty.  I think I must have done something wrong to cause it to happen...but my husband says that the computers themselves and sometimes the software...are really are whats at fault.
So when your buddy has a fatal error...you don't have to feel guilty.

Jaime...thanks for your reply...
I must tell you though, that I am the one who works the computer.
I may be a chipmunk, but I am a very gifted chipmunk!

Thanks Martin,  Isn't it amazing how a power failure throws us into a tizzy...In Michigan, they even close the schools if there is a widespread power outage in the winter.
This must say something about our lack of self-sufficiency.

Thanks Doreen, I would like very much to write with you...but right now, my life has also gotten in the way of a lot of my plans.
And...regarding that kitty litter...please consider yourself lucky that you have an outdoor kitty.  I used to have a cat that liked to use my flowerpots as a potty instead of his litter box.

Lyra - The electronic friend is evil I tell you evil.  It sucks you in, and sucks you in, until there is nothing left of you.   This was too funny.  Did your computer make you write this on its behalf?

Thanks for your reply, Pepper...doesn't it sound scary..."fatal error"?

That term always gets to me...and I wonder, for whom is the error fatal?

I'm just an agent for this computer...I do the typing

And when this computer gets hungry...I feed it some NY pizza...thats why its so evil
