In the Grains

the morning sky’s dressed
in shades of powder blue
and, just above the sunlight,
it's draped in cotton-clouds-
all balled up,
like dumplings,
atop a chicken stew,
the kind I used to share
on a winter’s eve
with you

memories are conjured
like honey to my soul
the nectar of the ages
that time cannot steal
in its powerful clutch
my heart knows
each memory is real

oh, yes, I shall move forward,
not living in the past,
but I’ll cling to those memories
as long as they shall last
as long as there is breathing
as long as my heart’s beating
the memories repeating
in the grains of an hourglass

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
