RodRic stacked six rigs last week;
Chocks has three in the yard.
When the price of crude begins to reek
Times in west Texas get hard.

Oilpatch life is up or down-
It’s always boom or bust.
But now this little oilfield town
Is dissolving into dust.

Gaines County folk have a gin
To eke out hard times there.
They’ve always got cotton coming in,
When paper cash is rare.

Monahans has white sand hills;
They get a tourist dime.
But I don’t expect dune buggy thrills
Are worth much over time.

From Andrews to the Caprock
There’s not a lot to choose;
Black gold’s worthless, your tail’s in hock,
You’ve got the Oilpatch blues.

A country tune for sure. Maybe it's time to put up solar panels and windmills.

(sigh) Ooooohhh...I agree, this would make a wonderful country tune! (sigh) My heart cries out to all these ghost-towns where prospectors and miners used to drill and dig! Looks like it's windmills and fusion power to the rescue! (kiss on cheek) I love it, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Nancy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Dear Juanita,
Thanks. I was trying to write a country song, but it's got a lot of problems. However, since it said what I wanted to say, I posted it anyhow.

Dear midnitesun,
Thanks for reading it. Yes, I was trying to write a country song. Don't put up windmills and solar panels! How can we sell oil if you have solar panels?

Nan, I love the way you've describe the heartache and hard times some are enduring right now. Someone needs to write one about the poor Enron lower eschelon who lost everything while the Big Boys cashed in. Good piece. Cheryl

This is a delightful read,
many twists and turns,
I enjoyed, made me
feel like I was traveling!

Dear Cheryl,
You're right about the Enron victims.  In the oilpatch we've grown used to boom and bust. We just about don't expect anything better, but those people were caught completely unaware.

A poem with a lot of soul, Nan...
I agree with the others...it would be an outstanding country music song.
A fine salute to the state of Texas!

Nan darling girl this is just sooooooooo wonderful. I am never disappointed by the artistry and wonder you craft into your poems and this is utterly utterly fabulous.

I can see this being a country song, although I don’t think it’s sad enough, no one is dying and there’s no dog howling. That aside it's perfect

And it is as wonderful as you are because YOU are truly wonderful

You know that this is utterly fabulous  don’t you, the flow is just perfect

Truly sensational writing,

Love and warm stuff

Dear Lyra,
Thanks for reading it. I was trying to write a country song with my home in it. I'm glad you liked it.

Dear Nightshade-Hah! Oilpatch blues for sure. I used to get that when my boys were teenagers.

Dear Nancy,
I'm glad you liked it. I was trying to write a country song. I never got the meter right, and I usually don't have a problem with that. I don't know what it is.

Dear Marsha,
You always say the nicest things about my poems. Even the seriously flawed ones like this. But it's about home so I posted it anyway.
